Gandhinagar, Wednesday: Gujarat's yearlong Swarnim Jayanti celebrations to commemorate its golden jubilee will conclude through a series of multi-location functions from April 15, culminating in grand finale in Ahmedabad on May 1, 2011.

The concluding functions will be held at five places in five zones on as many themes, each based on the state's five core strengths, known as ‘Panch Shakti', Gujarat Government's spokespersons Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas and Minister of State for Energy Saurabh Patel informed here today.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the series of state-level concluding functions, beginning with that on ‘Jan Shakti' at Dahod on April 15. It will be followed by functions on the themes of ‘Raksha Shakti' at Anand on April 18, ‘Gyan Shakti' at Surat on April 21, ‘Urja Shakti' at Palanpur on April 23 and ‘Jal Shakti' at Rajkot on April 25.

The next function will be held at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar on April 30. It will comprise a conference of Non-Resident Gujaratis on ‘Global Gujarat' and a mega exhibition on the state's all round achievements particularly during the last decade from 2001 to 2011, depicted through tableaux, march past and torch rally.

The grand finale will be held on the state's foundation day, observed as ‘Gaurav Diwas', on May 1 at Sardar PAtel Stadium in Ahmedabad, through a magnificent variety entertainment programme with ‘Aage Kadam Gujarat' as the theme. The cultural programme will be repeated at the same venue on May 2.

Elaborating the themes, Mr. Vyas and Mr. Patel said the zonal celebration on ‘Jan Shakti' will be held on April 15 at Dahod to highlight the progress of scheduled tribe people through ‘Vanbandhu', ‘Sakhi Mandal' and ‘Mission Mangalam' welfare schemes.

The April 19 function on ‘Raksha Shakti' at Anand will highlight the importance of social safety and security of people, including the health of people. Uniformed personnel will present motorcycle and other daredevil shows.

The April 21 function on ‘Gyan Shakti' at Surat will be to highlight the importance of knowledge, manifested through a number of unique programme started during the last decade such as ‘Vanche Gujarat' to inculcate habit of reading, School Enrolment, Girls Education and Health Checkup Schemes, besides linking Gujarat universities with global ones for creating excellent workforce.

The April 23 function on ‘Urja Shakti' at Palanpur will be to underscore the importance of energy in the path to progress, with extra stress on solar energy besides the conventional ones. Gujarat can claim to be a leader in this sector with a host of organizations like GSPC, GACL, GEDA and Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University in place.

The April 25 function on ‘Jal Shakti' at Rajkot will underline the importance of water especially for the drought-prone Saurashtra & Kutch and north Gujarat. The state has taken a lead in this sector too, in the form of gigantic Narmada and Sujalam Sufalam projects as well as small scale check dams and farm ponds.

The state plans to hold rallies in each and every town and village during the celebration.
