Gujarat CM Attends the Celebration of the 67th Van Mahotsav at Verakhadi in Anand

Gujarat CM Smt. Anandiben Patel commenced the 67th statewide Van Mahtosav and dedicated Mahisagar Van at Verakhadi in Anand District today. Detailing the adverse effects of global warming and climate change on various aspects of our lives, CM Smt. Patel stressed on the need to conserve the environment. CM Smt. Patel informed that the forest department has made arrangements wherein families can celebrate various occasions like birthdays, anniversaries etc. at places where such cultural forests have been developed by planting a sapling and nurturing it. Also, the forest department has planted over 4 thousand trees and another 85 thousand saplings at the Mahisagar van developed at Verakhadi.

Citing the deficient rainfall in various parts of the state, CM Smt. Patel urged people to adopt various water conservation methods like rain water harvesting and also focus on increasing the amount of water absorbed by the ground to increase ground water levels.

Talking about the importance of trees, CM Smt. Patel stressed on the need to plant more trees to counter the adverse effects of global warming. Increasing the green cover helps in bringing more rains and also cools the environment, she added. She urged people to plant trees near their homes, offices, farms etc. wherever there is space to contribute in increasing the green cover in the state.

CM Smt. Patel said that the government is actively working towards planting as many trees as possible to increase the green cover in the state, but without the participation and cooperation of citizens, the results wouldn’t be so significant. Talking about Van Mahotsavs, CM Smt. Patel said that the state government started this initiative to promote planting of trees on a large scale in various parts of the state. CM Smt. Patel appreciated the cooperation of people in this initiative and said that nowadays, people have understood the need to plant more trees. In Ahmedabad city alone, over 75000 trees were planted at 75 locations with cooperation from citizens.

CM Smt. Patel informed that a survey was conducted by the government to count the number of saplings planted in each district. She lauded the farmers of Anand District who enabled Anand to secure the top spot among 33 districts and 8 municipalities of the state in terms of total number of saplings planted. She also lauded women for their contribution in conservation and planting of trees. She also announced a special provision of Rs. 10 crore for plantation and conservation of trees in Anand District out of which 5 crore will be allocated for developing Mahisagar van as an eco-tourism spot.

On the occasion, CM Smt. Patel felicitated citizens who are spreading awareness about tree planting and conservation and also forest department officials who are doing exceptional work.

Talking about the lack of rainfall in the current monsoon till now, CM Smt. Patel prayed for more rain in the state and urged people to conserve water in case the state faces a water shortage. She urged citizens to use water responsibly and adopt rain water harvesting and also urged farmers to employ methods which use less quantities of water.

Talking about the 67th Van Mahotsav, CM Smt. Patel said that on 7th of August trees will be planted simultaneously across the state and urged people to join the cause. On the occasion, CM Smt. Patel also launched a booklet and a CD dedicated to the importance of forests. Also, various organizations donated over Rs. 3.13 lakh to CM’s kelavani Nidhi.
