Chief Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi has said that the happiness and progress of poor and deprived classes is his uppermost priority, not the power. He was speaking at Garib Kalyan Mela, held at Patan Today. The scenario in the other parts of nation is quite pessimistic. Vote-bank politics has not delivered anything, poor people becomes victim of it. He spoke highly about state's extra-ordinary efforts to eradicate poverty.

The first Garib Kalyan Mela of Patan distributed tool-kits and aids worth more than Rs. 24 Crores to 27501 beneficiaries from Patan, Siddhpur and Chanasma Talukas. Chief Minister and other Ministers distributed aids and tool-kits to them. Chief Minister also inaugurated the newly built Swarnim Gujarat Police Station building at Patan today.

He elaborated upon the objectives of ‘Mission Mangalam Scheme', which is aimed to allocate fund of Rs.1000 Crores to the 1.25 lac Sakhi Mandals (Women Self Help Groups across the State). It empowers women, by taking up economic activities; it also makes them free from private money lenders, who charge exorbitant interest.

Poor people were treated as the vote-bank for the last 60 years. Nothing concrete was ever done to alleviate poverty. State has launched an Abhiyan (Making Sincere endeavors under the drive) to eradicate poverty. The Garib Kalyan Mela Abhiyan is aimed to bring positive changes in the lives of poor people, added C.M.

He listed the achievements and breakthroughs, the impossible looking tasks are achieved, remaining steadfast in the objective to find lasting solutions to the problems faced by people. Coming true to the aspirations of people, Jyotigram Yojana delivered 24 hours electricity supply to all 18000 villages of the State. After 50 long years, present Government realised the dream of Narmada Yojna. Narmada waters have transformed dry-lands in to green lands. State is making committed endeavors to implement the benchmarks of quality education. When we could find solutions to the daunting problems, why we can not eradicate poverty? He raised the question with confidence of battling out penury. Gujarat would certainly prove its eminence in this regard.

He regretted the miserable failure of past Governments, schemes were formulated, budgets of crores of rupees were spent, but the problem of poverty has been festering for decades. The rupee sanctioned from Delhi treasuries, till it reaches up to the poor, it used to reach only 15 Paisa. Our Late Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi was concerned about it. But he could not find solution. The Garib Kalyan Mela Abhiyan aims to destroy the networks of mediators. It delivers the scheme-benefits, directly in to the hands of identifies beneficiary. Chief Minister outlined the impeccable track record of the Abhiyan, under which the poor is ensured that the entire exercise is promises corruption free dealings.

He cautioned,” Do not pay a single Naya Paisa to anybody. If the tool-kit material received by you is of inferior quality, just write a post-card to me. I would take responsible agencies to the task.”

Revenue Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Fakirbhai Vaghela, Minister of State Shri Vasanbhai Aahir also addressed the gathering.
