Artists from rural Gujarat performs Graba Rass on Sharad Purnima at Gujarat Bhawan, New Delhi – preserving Cultural Heritage

New Delhi : Government of Gujarat arranged a cultural evening on the occasion of ‘Sharad Purnima’ at Gujarat Bhawan, New Delhi. The internationally acclaimed artists from Shri Ambawadi Kalavrind, Jam Khambhadia and Patel Raas Mandli from Latipur performed traditional dances of Gujarat. The office of the Resident Commissioner organized the cultural evening on the occasion of “Sharad Purnima” in the lawn of Gujarat Bhawan premises.

Beda Dance and Maha Arati was the star attraction. Young women demonstrated exemplary skills in balancing series of metal pots on their head while performing the Garba dance. The most touching aspect of the programme is that all these women come from rural and highly arid areas of Gujarat and they work on farms. These people are preserving the cultural heritage of Gujarat. The performance was appreciated by all and was an eye opener for the people of Delhi.

Hon’ble Justice Shri Anil R. Dave of Supreme Court of India inaugurated the event by lighting the lamps. Justice J.M. Panchal was also present on the occasion. While welcoming the guests and their love for culture of Gujarat, Shri Bharat Lal, Resident Commissioner said that Gujarat is a vibrant State and its spirit is manifested in its fabric, colour, dance, drama and music.

Senior Secretaries, Special Secretaries, Addl. Secretaries, Joint Secretaries and other senior officials from Government of India, Gujarat Cadre IAS, IPS, IFS Officers, academicians, prominent Gujaratis and other dignitaries participated in the event. Although Navratri festival is very famous and various dance forms of Gujarat are very popular but for many in audience, it was a new experience and they appreciated the cultural diversity and richness of Gujarat. Seeing the response of the people and their requests, RC Office is exploring the possibility to organize a ‘Gujarat Cultural Week’ wherein such programmes in collaboration with cultural centres in Delhi, can be organised.
