Gujarat CM Appeals to Take Benefit of Income Declaration Scheme 2016 and Contribute in Developing the Nation in Ahmedabad

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel attended a seminar organized to promote the recently launched Income Declaration Scheme 2016 presided over by Union Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley along with Revenue Secretary Shri Hasmukh Adhia at Gujarat University Convention Hall in Ahmedabad today.

On this occasion, CM Smt. Patel stated that there was an atmosphere of despair in the country and the picture of Indian economy was very gloomy before 2014, but after NDA government under the able leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi came into power, India has witnessed consistent growth and stable economy. His constant efforts towards economic reforms have put Indian economy on fast-track and today it has become the fastest growing economy in the world. She went on to say that ‘Tax Reforms’ initiated by the government has helped end ‘Tax Terrorism’ from the country.

Appreciating the ‘Income Declaration Scheme 2016’, CM Smt. Patel stated that this one-time compliance window is an opportunity to all the tax evaders to come out clean by paying applicable taxes on their undisclosed income. She said that it is a matter of great delight that the first such conference is held in Gujarat and the Union Finance Minister himself has come to interact and to create awareness about this welcome step of the government. She added that this shows that the government is fully committed to removing black money from the country and strengthening our economy.

CM Smt. Patel said that taxes are the main source of revenue generation for any government and extremely important for development of the nation. She appealed everybody to honestly pay their taxes and dues by 30th September, the last date of this scheme, and contribute in nation building. She shared that after the deadline, the Income Tax Department would initiate its own action on people with unaccounted money. She also assured that the income declared under this scheme will have complete confidentiality and ruled out the possibility of any kind of legal harassment. She gladly shared that Gujarat is one of the highest Income Tax paying states with tax collection of over Rs. 34, 865 crore in the year 2015-16 and has over 1.57 crore PAN Card holders. She said that this is the result of increased awareness amongst tax payers and a positive atmosphere created by the government.

Union Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley shared detailed information about the scheme. During the program an interactive session was also held to clear all the doubts and questions about how to take benefit of the scheme and explain various facets of the scheme.
