Chief Minister inaugurates 67th Van Mahotsav at Nanapoda in Valsad District

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel today inaugurated the 67th State Van Mahotsav at Nanapoda in Valsad district by throwing open mango orchard ‘Amra Van’ created by the State Forest Department. She also opened a village haat built at a cost of Rs.2-crore as local buyers-sellers meeting place.

Speaking at the function, she said trees are not just green canopy, but serves as an ornament of the Mother Earth – be it in urban areas or rural. There is a need to create awareness and everyone should plant, grow and preserve trees. Trees are known to attract rain-bearing clouds and water retention in the soil. From this year, she said the Van Mahotsav will be launched from four places.

Describing Van Mahotsav as an occasion to create pollution-free atmosphere, she declared the Dangs district as the state’s 100 percent organic farming district depending on all organic inputs including manures. Talking about Amra Van developed by the first department, CM Smt. Patel informed that Amra Van is spread over 4.71 hectares and will be home to 11 varieties Mango. This forest will ensure round the year supply of famous mangoes of Valsad. Amra Van will also have handicraft stores run by the tribals which will generate employment. CM Smt. Patel also expressed her confidence that Amra Van will emerge as a tourist destination and boost ecotourism in the state.

Talking about ensuring adequate drinking water supply, CM Smt. Patel said that her government has sanctioned Rs.322-crore to provide potable water to 221 villages in Kaprada and Dharampur talukas. She called for strengthening Eklavya Residential School and Vigyan Shala in every taluka, equipped with science labs and computer rooms, specifically designed for the poor tribal children. She claimed that Gujarat has made progress in providing education, health, housing and jobs to the tribal people through ‘sauna saath, sauna vikas’.

On the occasion, Forest & Environment and Tribal Development Minister Shri Mangubhai Patel, Minister of State for Forest Shri Bachubhai Khabad, MP Shri K.C. Patel, Vidhan Sabha Deputy Whip Shri R.C. Patel, Valsad District Panchayat President Shri Jeetendrabhai Tandel, MLAs Bharatbhai Patel, Kanubhai Desai, Ramanlal Patkar and Jitubhai Chaudhry, Collector Shri Remya Mohan and Superintendent of Police Premveer Singh remained present.
