Gujarat CM inaugurates Swami Vivekanand State Level Sports Competition at Rajkot

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Aanandiben Patel inaugurated Swami Vivekanand State Level Sports Competition, organized by Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department at Hemu Gadhavi Natyagrih in Rajkot last evening.

Speaking on this occasion, CM Smt Patel said that while Gujarat is trying to make a place for itself in sports, it becomes our responsibility to motivate our emerging sportsmen and provide them opportunity. Talking about the Shaktidoot Yojana, she shared that the scheme is for training the bright and talented sportspersons from middleclass and poor families. It also extends assistance to our promising sports person so that they can pursue their sporting dream, she added. She mentioned that Khel Mahakumbh initiative of the then CM Shri Narendrabhai was started with an objective to encourage sports in the state and it has now started paying dividends as many of our players are winning medals in national and international sports competitions. She also talked about Sports Policy prepared with a view to producing international-level sportspersons and developing world-class sports infrastructure in the state. She told that sports activity has been given massive impetus through various initiatives of the state government like Sports University, Swami Vivekananda Youth Centers, Sports Schools and Centres-of-Excellence for Sports.

CM Smt Patel stated that sports play a very vital role in character building. Sports develops the quality of sportsmanship and also unites us as well as builds team spirit, she said. Referring to the message of Swami Vivekanand, she said that it is important to promote sports culture among the youth. She went on to say that sporting activities develop the skill and personality.

On this occasion, CM Smt Patel also released a book ‘Rajkot Vishe’, depicting the development of Rajkot under the able leadership of CM Smt Patel in last two years.

Later on, at Madhavrao Scindia Stadium, CM Smt Patel tossed coin and inaugurated various games like Tug of War, Kho-Kho, Tennis, Cricket, Musical Chair, volleyball etc. It is to be noted that total 2181 players have participated in the competition that includes 1408 male and 783 female participants. Congratulating the organizers, she wished this event will help spread Vivekanand’s messages and philosophy for the youth.

On the sidelines of the event, CM Smt Patel inaugurated a high-rise police staff quarters, Aji Dam Police Station, a bungalow for Dy. Police Commissioner, ACP office and an Anganwadi at the police headquarters in Rajkot. On this occasion, she said that the state government is concerned about welfare of the last man and also committed to provide ideal civic facilities and to improve living standard of the people across the state.

Those present on the occasion included Union Minister of State for Agriculture Shri Mohanbhai Kundaria, Water Supply Minister and State BJP President Shri Vijay Rupani, State Ministers Shri Nanubhai Vanani, Shri Govindbhai Patel, Shri Jayesh Radadiya, Rajkot City BJP President Shri Kamlesh Mirani, MLAs, Rajkot Mayor Dr. Jaiman Upadhyay, Dy. Maoyr Dr. Darshita Shah, Dr. Vallabh Kathiria, Municipal Commissioner Shri Vijay Nehra, DDO Shri Manoj Kothari, Collector Shri Vikrant Pandey and other dignitaries.
