Gujarat: Ushering New Paradigms in Raksha Shakti

Amidst the gloom over several crimes throughout the nation, there is a silver lining of hope and security for all the citizens in Gujarat. There is a lot the country can learn from the ingenious leadership of Shri Modi about ensuring an atmosphere of safety and security for the 6 crore people of Gujarat.

With the recent inauguration of CCTV camera surveillance network in Surat under the “Safe City Surat” project of the police, Shri Modi set new benchmarks for safety and security in the State. He said, “The project will show a new path to the nation in establishing reliable vigilance network for crime detection”. We have heard about the success of the PPP model but Shri Modi has gone a step ahead and delineated a distinctive 4P mantra of “People’s Public Private Partnership” with a project such as this.

Recapitulating Shri Modi’s approach towards safety and security, the most exemplary aspect is that Gujarat has the most youthful police force in India. A paradigm shift has been witnessed in the State as youngsters are now motivated to join police force with a well-thought and comprehensive structure for police training.

The recognition of Gujarat Police force as a well- educated and techno-savvy force in the country can be attributed to numerous reforms visioned by Shri Modi. Gujarat plays a leading role in citizens’ security with the formation of Rakshashakti University and Forensic Science University Shri Modi has wonderfully infused innovation and education with aspects of security.

Moving forward in this direction, the State Government led by Shri Modi also has undertaken noteworthy steps for coastal security. Gone are the days when Gujarat’s coasts were a part of the state that were largely ignored by Governments. Shri Modi is all set to develop the coats at a remarkable pace and if Gujarat’s coasts are becoming the gateway for the world to India, a major contribution is the emphasis Shri Modi has given on coastal security. Formation of a marine commando unit and a Maritime Police Academy has been planned. Furthermore, the radar-based Vessel Traffic and Management Systemhave aimed to effectively check intrusions from the Sea.

Apart from the large-scale initiatives, the Chief Minister took the campaign of road safety to the grassroots by launching a book on road safety for 3 lakh students in 2011. Furthermore, TEAM (Traffic Education & Awareness Mobile) Van was conceptualized by the State Government in 2010-11. This Van has not only brought the notion of road safety to the remotest locations at people’s door- step but has also won a National Award for Innovation in road safety.

Broadening the definitions of “Raksha Shakti”, Shri Modi has stated, “Gujarat has emerged as the safest and most secured State. Paying adequate importance to social and economic security besides law and order, Gujarat is positioned as a model for others to follow.”Keeping this as a focal point, the State Government has targeted at a holistic approach towards security with initiatives such as disaster management, 108 emergency services, health schemes for nutrition and safe child-birth.

To summarize, Shri Modi has endeavored to reform every small facet of safety and security in Gujarat. The reality that Gujarat has not seen the unfortunate scene of mindless violence and major disorders is a testimony to Shri Modi’s commitment towards security of the citizens. The efforts of his good governance have truly reached out to the last mileand last person in the queue!
