Gujarat CM unfurls the tricolour to mark the 69th Independence Day at Lunawada of Mahisagar district

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel today unfurled the tricolour and received the state salute amidst the tune of National Anthem and showering of flowers from helicopter to mark the 69th Independence Day at the state-level ceremony held at Lunawada of newly constituted Mahisagar district, in the august presence of Governor of Gujarat Shri O. P. Kohli ji.

CM Smt Patel called this a proud moment and declared that as tribute to freedom fighters, the state government has decided to increase Rs. 4000 in pension given to them and Rs. 2000 increase in the pension to their dependents.

In her address, CM Smt Patel, while extending her greetings to the people of Gujarat, lauded the progress made by the state in varied sectors like women empowerment, agricultural revolution, industrial development, quality education, health care, social justice, etc. She also commemorated Sardar Patel, the iron man of the nation, for his mammoth efforts for the unity of the country.

On this occasion, CM Smt Patel shared that the government is committed to welfare of widows, and now the income limit for pension eligibility has been increased to Rs. 47,000 in rural areas and Rs. 68,000 in urban areas. She also declared to commence 11 new colleges in the different talukas of the state. She also shared that considering the importance of skill for our youth empowerment, soon four new skill development centers based on PPP mode will be setup at four important locations in Gujarat. Keeping in view protection of environment, cattle health and cleanliness, she made an important announcement of plastic ban across Gujarat.

CM Smt Patel stated that 159 towns and 8 cities across Gujarat now have 100% in-house toilets and nearly 8 lakh toilets have been built in villages. She also thanked everyone across the state who have generously donated Rs. 60 crore in ‘Mukhyamantri Swachhta Nidhi’ to support ‘Toilet for all’ mission.

In her speech, CM Smt Patel elaborated on the initiatives of the state government for the betterment of the citizens of Gujarat. She specifically mentioned about ‘Gender Budget’, new universities at Junagadh and Godhra, network of about 700 ITIs, Health Check-up camps, cleanliness drive, new police range, Garib Kalyan Mela, etc. She also informed about some of the recent revenue related policy decisions taken by the state government.

On this occasion, a cultural extravaganza, ‘Mahisagar na Moti’, was presented by as many as 550 artists. ‘Suraksha Setu’ girls also demonstrated ‘Judo-Karate’. There was also Riffle Drill, Motor Cycle Stunt Show, Anti-Terrorist demonstration, Dog and Horse force etc. by the state police force.

Ministers, MLAs, Senior bureaucrats, Chief Secretary Shri G. R. Aloria, DGP Shri P. C. Thakur, Secretary in-charge Shri Natrajan, Secretary to CM Shri Ajay Bhadoo, Information Commissioner Shri S. B. Rawal and thousands of people filled with patriotic emotions witnessed the celebration.
