Gandhinagar:Gujarat Government has started elaborate preparations for the mega event -Global Investors Summit -2011 slated to be held next year on 12th -13th January in Gandhinagar. The State Government is deputing senior secretaries to visit focus countries to meet the prominent industrialists and diplomats to extend the invitation to participate in the event. As a part of this exercise, the State Government had yesterday late evening organized an “Interaction Meet” with the Ambassadors and Diplomats of various countries in the Capital. A high level delegation led by Industries Minister Shri Saurabhbhai Patel comprising Chief Secretary Shri A.K. Joti and Principal Secretary (Ind.) Shri Maheswar Sahu and other senior officers made an impressive presentation before a huge gathering of diplomats explaining as to why Gujarat is considered to be the most favourable destination for investment in this part of the world.

Addressing the Amb ass adors and diplomats, Gujarat Minister Shri Saurabhbhai Patel apprised that the State Government has l aid special emph asis on developing world class infrastructure to support its growing industrial base. Today, it is one of the few regions which has taken initiatives and developed infrastructure not only in the conventional areas but as per the requirements of the 21st century such as gas grid, optical fiber network, water supply network, irrigation systems, communication, information infrastructure, etc. He also added that Gujarat is continuously maintaining double digit growth rate. In the Tenth Five Year Plan, Planning Commission set a target of 10.2% growth rate against which Gujarat achieved 10.86%. In the Eleventh Five Year Plan, Planning Commission has set a target of 11.2% growth rate, against which the State has achieved 10.07% in the first three years despite global meltdown.

To take Gujarat's infr astructure development to new heights over last one dec ade, Chief Minister Narendra Modi has recently released a document BIG-2020 –Blueprint for Infrastructure in Gujarat-2020, which will ensure high investment in infrastructure, increase productivity, expand the base of industries and services sector. The BIG 2020 which envis ages an investment of Rs. 11,80,912 crore across 19 infrastructure sectors, is an integrated plan for the state's infrastructure development.

Shri Patel pointed out that power is critical for development of agriculture and industries both, and Gujarat h as always managed power situation very well. In agriculture sec tor, Gujarat has been successful to increase the growth rate up to 12% during last four years. Three times increase in the value of output in agriculture over last 10 years- from Rs.15,974 crore in 1999-2000 to Rs.47,540 crore in 2008-09. Referring to the power sector, he said that power generation has been increased from 546 million KWH in 1960 to 68,062 million KWH in 2009, contributing about 10% to all India power generation. With the implementation of Jyotigram Yojna, all the villages are supplied with 24 hours uninterrupted and reliable 3- phase power supply improving the quality of life as also promoting micro-mini industries, household cottage production and growth of services.

Referring to the promotion of non-conventional sources of energy, Shri Patel said that Government of Gujarat is quite concerned about the issues of climate change and therefore h as taken several steps. As against the plan to set up 500 MW capacity targeted in the Solar policy announced in 2009, the State signed MOUs and allotted 716 MW of solar power capacity to 34 national and international project developers.

He also mentioned that public grievance redress al mechanism is very successful in Gujarat. With the help of State Wide Attention on Grievances through Application of Technology (SWAGAT), public grievances are redressed online in presence of Chief Minister. It h as become a very popular programme and is selected as an international case study by Manchester University of UK. So far, 35,021 grievances have been redressed ever since it was launched in 2003, the Minister added.

The Ambassadors/diplomats and representatives who attended the “Interaction Meet” from various countries included Japan, Turkey, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Nepal, Canada, Russian Federation. Vietnam, Italy, Philippines, Columbia, Cuba, Uganda etc.

On behalf of Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Shri Saurabhbhai Patel extended a cordial invitation to all the Ambassadors and diplomats to participate in all the programmes of Vibrant Gujarat-2011 to be held on 12th and 13th January 2011 followed by Kite Festival on 14th January, when Gujarat sky will be dotted with colourful kites and vibrancy of the people at its peak.

Earlier, Shri Maheshwar Sahu, Principal Secretary, Industries made an impressive presentation covering all the details of the event of Vibrant Gujarat-2011.

In his welcome address, Shri Hari Bharatia, President of CII said that the performance of Gujarat is an example of India's success story. Everyone knows that Gujaratis are entrepreneurs but Gujarat Government companies have also demonstrated excellent degree of entrepreneurship. He solicited support from diplomats of various countries for acting as investment catalyst. CII is the national partner of Global Investors Summit 2011.

Shri B.K. Sinha, Addl. Chief Secretary, Shri G.C. Murmu, Addl. Principal Secretary to CM, Shri G. Mohpatra, Commissioner (Commercial Tax), Shri B.B. Swain, Industries Commissioner and other senior officers from Government of Gujarat also attended the Interaction Meet.
