Gandhinagar: Friday: On presenting Govt. of India's Nirmal-Gram award to 350 Gram-Panchayats, Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi appealed to create a healthy competitive atmosphere so as to enable all the 18000 villages of Gujarat to be Clean - ‘Nirmal'. He suggested that a Nirmal-Gram should help the other villages to get Nirmal.

‘Nirmal-Gram' is a Central Government's scheme under which as many as 350 Gram-Panchayats of Gujarat have been awarded for the year 2009, for keeping their village clean. Today, in a function held at Gandhinagar Chief Minister honored 350 Sarpanches with Nirmal-Gram award, in which 105 were female. About 1670 Gram-Panchayats of Gujarat have bagged Nirmal-Gram award till now.

Talking to people and Sarpanches of about 13693 villages who were watching the programme through E-Gram connectivity, Shri Modi said that task of keeping the villages clean is indeed formidable but with a conscious leadership and activeness of villagers it can surely be done.

He said that not a single village of Gujarat will be deprived of sanitation facilities. He appealed the villagers to use the solid waste management system as a tool that serves twin cause – cleanliness and a source of income.

Stressing upon the benefits of Gobar-Bank, Shri Modi said that it keeps the village clean and must be deployed in all the villages. Calling upon villages to start animal hostels for stock-raising, he said that villages should now adapt innovative methods and be with time.

On felicitating winner Sarpanches he said that not money but determination is needed for the making of a ‘Nirmal-Gram'.

Chief Minister also called upon youths to devote 100 hours of their time in a year for the betterment of the Gujarat State.

Chief Minister viewed an exhibition on clean villages held on the occasion.

Rural Development Minister Shri Jaswantsinhji Bhambhore, District In-Charge Minister Shri Parbatbhai Patel, Commissioner and Principal Secretary to Rural Development department Rita Tevatiya, Sarapanches and officers of Rural Development department were present on the occasion.
