Gujarat CM inaugurates and lays foundation stone of water distribution development works worth Rs. 715 crore at Vyara in Tapi district

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel today dedicated and laid foundation stone of water distribution development works worth Rs. 715 crore providing drinking water facility to 388 villages of South Gujarat today at Vyara in Tapi district today.

On the occasion, CM Smt Patel said that the government have got success in supplying clean drinking water across the state from the rivers like Narmada, Tapi, Ambica, etc. She added that there was scarcity of water in this area due to lack of rain water conservation and storage system. The state government took measures like check dams, lakes, irrigation networks, etc. to get rid of water scarcity in the state.

CM Smt Patel stated that Gujarat has achieved distinct success in groundwater storage with the help of public support. Availability of water even for the barren lands of Kutch is the result of such visionary measures of the government. She also said agriculture has increased because of the 10 hour electric supply in the state. She expressed hope that women of the area will get rid of many difficulties as a result of this water supply system.

CM Smt Patel shared information about various health related initiatives of the state government and said that free health check-up of about 45 lakh children have already been done that includes 60,000 children of this area. In addition, she informed about 3000 highly malnourished children who were treated in the hospital and also a special ward for about 150 children started in Dharampur Hospital where entertainment facilities are also arranged for the children. Talking about the first ever women health check-up drive, she said that the government is committed to provide free treatment for breast and cervical cancer to women.

CM Smt Patel informed about disbursement of Rs. 10 crore, in addition to Rs. 10 crore given to Ukai Pradesh Sahakari Khand Udyog Mandali, for commissioning of cane crushing work. On this occasion, she stated that this newly inaugurated Tapi and Ambica rivers based drinking water supply system villages of Surat and Tapi districts will save time and energy as well as increase the earnings and functionality of the tribal women.

It is to be noted that about 1.90 lakh people of total 159 villages, including 93 villages of Mandavi Taluka and 42 villages of Umarpada Taluka, will be benefitted from the newly inaugurated and announced Rs. 256 crore Kakrapar water distribution system. In addition, a Rs.440 crore Tapi Bulk Pipeline Project based on Kakrapar weir on Tapi river near Kanaja village of Vyara taluka, to distribute daily 100 liters of water to total 198 villages including 147 villages of Vyara taluka, 40 villages of Valod taluka and 11 villages of Mahuva taluka benefitting 6.10 lakh people. One more Umra Village Water Supply Scheme on Ambica river worth Rs. 19 crore was also inaugurated for supplying daily 100 liters of water to 23 villages of Mahuva taluka of Surat district through 58 km long pipeline benefitting 75,000 people.

On this occasion, Speaker of the Gujarat Assembly Shri Ganpatbhai Vasava, Water Supply Minister Shri Vijaybhai Rupani, State Ministers Nanubhai Vanani and Shri Kantibhai Gamit, MP Shri Prabhubhai Vasava, MLAs Shri Narottambhai Patel and Shri Mohanbhai Dhodia, Principal Secretary and Chairman of Gujarat Water Supply Board Shri Mukesh Puri, district collector, other dignitaries and people in large number remained present.
