Gandhinagar: May, 31: (Information Bureau): Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi has announced that Gujarat has adopted a novel pattern of progress and with the strategic development of the key sectors like energy, industry and agriculture the State would celebrate its current Golden Jubilee Year as “The Year of Progress”.

Chief Minister while dedicating a 250 MW Surat Lignite Power Plant Expansion Project to the Nation at Nani Naroli in Surat district said that two more power projects of 500 mw capacity were coming up in the region.

Coming down heavily on Centre for not allowing coal from neighboring Nagpur coalfields in Maharashtra for Gujarat's coal based power projects, he said that such anti-Gujarat policy has compelled us in bringing coal from Bihar and Jharkhand and that caused costly power for our consumers. He categorically said: No such barricades can stop the rapidly progressing Gujarat from its path which is longingly heading for all round development.

Criticizing Centre's cotton export policy shri Modi said, Gujarat's farmers who cultivate best quality of cotton have been incurring a loss of Rs. 200 millions due to its anti-peasant policy. He also criticized Centre's policy of dealing with terrorists and Maoist, who kill hundreds of innocent people at regular intervals.

State Energy Minister Saurabhbhai Patel said Gujarat, would soon become the “energy hub” in coming days with coming up of more and more of mega power projects in the state.

Panchayat Minister Narottambhai Patel, Tribal Development Minister Mangubhai Patel, MLA Ganpat Vasava, GIPCL chairman D. J. Pandian, GACL MD Guru Prasad Mahapatra, Collector A. J. Shah attended the glittering function hosted by Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited (GIPCL).

The Chief Minister, in a historic move, while christening 270 primary schools run by Surat Municipal Corporation, on Sunday, has said that it has been necessary for school children to know about country's glorious history, as those who learn history could create a history. He stressed need for learning to cope with fast changing world. Significantly, these schools, run by Primary Education Committee of Surat Municipal Corporation, were earlier known by their serial numbers. Mayor Ranjit Gilitwala, School Board chairman Rupin Pachchigar, Municipal Commissioner S. Aparna were present.
