Gujarat Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel Inaugurates Kutch Branch Canal Siphon at Jhajham in Patan District

As a part of on-going state-level celebration of 68th Independence Day in Patan district, Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel inaugurated engineering marvel 2550 meter long canal siphon constructed at the cost of Rs. 386 crore. She also inaugurated work of Kutch branch canal chain of 45 to 82 kilometers.

On the occasion, Chief Minister thanked Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other union ministers for giving permission to construct gates on Narmada dam and also for resolving other pending issues of Gujarat.

Smt. Patel said that being a farmer’s daughter she is well aware of the problems faced by farmers due to lack of irrigation water in arid areas. She said that waters of river Narmada have come as blessing for Sami, Radhanpur and Santalpur talukas which have been facing lack of drinking and irrigational water and also farmers who have been hoping for better irrigation facility.

Chief Minister said that with the completion of canal siphon and branch canal, Narmada waters will travel 467 kilometers from Kevadiya Sardar Sarovar and reach Madhutra of Santalpur taluka in Patan district. She expressed her determination to end Kutch’s thirst by completing works along 144 kilometers Kutch branch canal by December 2014. Once the work is done, waters of river Narmada will flow till Jesada village of Rapar Taluka.

On the occasion, various organizations and prominent people gave a warm welcome to Chief Minister.
