PM Shri Narendra Modi Praises Development of Surat on His Arrival

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today complimented all those who contributed to unbelievable development and facelift of the Surat city over the last 25 years, thanks to their vision and exemplary efforts.

PM Shri Modi who began his two-day whirlwind tour of Gujarat from Surat this afternoon said that if there is one city in the entire country which could singularly contribute to the national economy on its own strengths it is undoubtedly Surat.

Speaking at his grand reception at the Surat airport, he also complimented Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Vijay Rupani and his team for their efforts for declaring towns Open Defecation Free (ODF) as part of the national cleanliness campaign. At the national level, he said, necessary infrastructure has been created in nearly 500 towns to make them ODF, while this number of such villages runs into lakhs.

PM Shri Modi also spoke on the Central Government’s move to remove the perpetual shortage of doctors and teachers in medical colleges by reversing the restriction on postgraduate seats in medical colleges. Nearly 4,000 post-graduate seats were added in one year, and at this rate 40,000 to one lakh doctors could be produced in the country in a few years.

Prominent among those present at the airport included Chief Minister Shri Vijay Rupani, Mayor Smt Asmitaben Shiroya, MPs Shri C.R. Patil, Smt Darshanaben Jardosh and Shri Prabhudas Vasava, Municipal Commissioner Shri M. Thennarasan, District Collector Shri Mahendra Patel and Police Commissioner Shri Satish Sharma.

PM Shri Modi was felicitated by Medical Association, Bar Association and other organizations on the occasion.
