Urban Local Bodies achieve 95% target in our endeavour to ensure 100% toilet facility throughout the state: Gujarat Chief Minister

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel today commenced works for various developmental projects worth Rs 69.51 crore and dedicated developmental works worth Rs 43.17 crore at Jamnagar. The developmental works amounting to Rs 112.68 crore were undertaken by Jamnagar Municipal Corporation (JMC) from the grant provided by state government as part of Mukhya Mantri Urban Development Yojana. She congratulated JMC for making several public-utility services available online.

It should be noted that, Jamnagar city local body has completed construction of toilets in 9,532 houses against the target of 10,649 houses that lacked in-house toilet facility. With an aim to make Jamnagar – a city with ‘100% toilet facility’, the remaining toilet will be constructed by the end of June-2015. On this occasion, CM Smt Patel declared that so far Municipal Corporations and Municipalities across Gujarat have achieved 95% target in state government’s endeavour to ensure 100% toilet facility across the state.

Besides the mission of ‘toilet-for-all’, JMC has undertaken the mission of providing nutritious and hot meals to 30,000 children of 297 anganwadis through Akshaya Patra foundation.

Stating that issues pertaining to education, water, health & increasing job opportunities have been given special impetus, CM Patel said that in last year she has focused on improving Human Development Index (HDI) of Gujarat.

In her address, CM Smt Patel urged people to avail benefit of Gujarat government’s initiative, commencing from June 2015, to screen and treat people suffering from diabetes. She also called on women to take breast and cervical cancer tests and avail free treatment which will be soon launched by state government. CM Smt Patel informed large gathering about the inclusion of Cleft Lip and Palate treatment in the School Health Program starting from new academic year.

On this occasion, CM Smt Patel received donation for Kanya Kelavani Nidhi and Mukhya Mantri Swachhta Nidhi. Expressing commitment to make optimum use of the donation, Chief Minister exclaimed that in the past six months people from across the state have donated Rs 50 crore for the Swachhta Abhiyan.

Agriculture Minister Shri Babubhai Bokhiria, State Minister for Women and Child Development Smt Vasuben Trivedi and Member of Parliament Ms Poonam Madam were present on the occasion.
