Gujarat CM Illuminates the Last Dark Corner of the State by Dedicating Power Connectivity to Shiyal Bet, an Island in Amreli District

Achieving major milestone in Gujarat’s growth story, Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel today dedicated electricity connectivity to Shiyal Bet, an island near Arabian Sea off the coast of Rajula-Jafrabad in Amreli district.

On this occasion, CM Smt Patel stated that for more than 68 years after Independence, Shiyal Bet remained deprived of electricity and today, because of the determined and pro-people approach of the BJP-led state government, we have been able to illuminate the lives of dwellers of the last dark corner of Gujarat by successfully laying 6.4 km long submarine cables and four 100 kv sub-stations, Asia’s longest, at the cost of Rs. 18 crore with the help of Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd. (PGVCL). She proudly shared that now there is no place with human population in Gujarat without electricity.

With power connectivity, CM Smt Patel also distributed energy efficient LED bulbs under UJALA Yojana for free and dedicated a newly constructed government secondary school and sub health center.

CM Smt Patel considered herself privileged to have become the first Chief Minister of Gujarat to visit island village of Shiyal Bet, neglected for decades by the previous Congress government. She stated that the people here, most of them are in fishing and venture into the sea, used to live a miserable life. She hit out at the Congress for being least interested in the development and bothered only about their vested interests. Listing out the welfare schemes and development works carried out during BJP rule in the state and in the country, she said that the Congress was in power since independence, but did nothing for the development of state. She went on to say that Congress should check the facts before criticizing BJP’s governance.

CM Smt Patel later also inaugurated regional office, new buildings of Adarsh Nivasi Kumar Shala, Government Boys Hotel for developing caste at Rajula and an Arts & Commerce College in Jafrabad as part of state government’s mission to ensure at least one college in each taluka of Gujarat. While inaugurating Girls Hostel and Model School at Rajula, she stated that this will make higher education easier and accessible for the girls of this region. The total development and public welfare works worth Rs. 47.76 crore were dedicated to the people of this region. She said that the public welfare works dedicated today shows the commitment of BJP-led government to ensure that the fruits of development reach every citizen of Gujarat without any discrimination.

She also briefly informed about free breast and cervical cancer treatment by the state government and asked women to avail benefits of all the initiatives undertaken for them. She also talked about her personal agenda to have in-house toilets in every home and free LPG connections to BPL families under Ujjwala Yojana. She stated that our government is committed to improve the lives of the people even living in far flung remote areas.

On this occasion, Finance & Energy Minister Shri Saurabhbhai Patel, State Minister for Energy Shri Govindbhai Patel, Amreli MP Shri Naranbhai Kachhadiya, MLAs Shri Hirabhai Solanki, Shri Vallabhbhai Vaghasiya, Shri Bavkubhai Unghad, Amreli District BJP President Shri Hirenbhai Hirpara, Presidents of Jafrabad and Rajula Taluka Panchayats, Sarpanchs, District Collector, DDO, government officials, PGVCL officials, other dignitaries and people or surrounding areas remained present.
