Gujarat CM lays foundation stone of Dharamsinh Desai University (DDU) Medical Sciences & Research Hospital at Nadiad

Hon’ble CM Smt Anandiben patel today laid the founding stone of the Faculty of Medical Science and Research at Nadiad, Kheda today.

Talking about the scarcity of qualified doctors in the interior villages and tribal regions of the state like Dahod, Panchmmahal, Chhhota Udepur, Dang, Banaskantha, Kutch etc. she stressed on the need to establish more medical colleges and universities to train doctors and also inculcate in them the dire need to volunteer in these villages for raising the health standards of the state. She further added that many doctors graduate every year, but they choose other options instead of serving the people of the state living in villages and far off regions.

CM Smt. Patel said that the government has started the fight against malnutrition so that all the children of state are healthy. She added that both private and government doctors have started adopting poor kids and looking after their health. Moreover, being a woman and a mother herself, CM Smt. Patel expressed her regret that due to the lack of doctors, women in interior and tribal regions are unable to deliver their babies in hospitals. The government has been consistently trying to make sure that all women of the state get their babies delivered in hospitals and receive proper medical healthcare right from the time they have conceived.

She said that currently the government offers financial aid to a few medical students who cannot pay for their education, but a scheme is being discussed under which fees of those medical students who cannot afford their education will be borne by the Government. Stressing on the need to have a humanitarian approach towards treating the poor of the state, she suggested that those same students should be willing to serve the government and the people of the state living in remote locations for two years post their graduation with their full pay.

She further emphasized on the need for research along with education to promote innovation which will benefit the people of the country. Also, she announced the introduction of a Startup policy which will be unveiled in the next week under which innovation and research will be given priority. Under this policy, the government will help startups establish their business by assisting them in getting land for production, hiring employees, providing support for the product etc for the first five years. To achieve this, she announced that government will construct multiple storied buildings in the GIDC sections of 8-12 cities of the state for building shops and offices. Also, entrepreneurs who want to acquire land for their business in these sections will be provided 50% financial assistance by the government in both rent and ownership. The government will offer assistance even for loans taken by these startups. The entrepreneur has to only pay interest at the rate of 5% and the rest 7% will be paid by the government.

Talking about the Mukhyamantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana for empowering the youth under which 50% fees of needful students is paid by the government, she announced that the income limit for obtaining the benefits of the scheme has been raised to Rs 6 lakh per annum from Rs 4 lakhs. Also, now students who get more than 80 percentile will be eligible to receive the benefits instead of the previous 90 percentile limit.

On this occasion, Health Minister Shri Nitinbhai Patel, Chief Whip of BJP Shri Pankajbhai Desai, and various other dignitaries remained present.
