CM launches state-wide drive to curb malnutrition, stresses on holistic health of children

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel launched state-wide drive to curb malnutrition among children from tribal district of Chhota Udaipur today. Similar programs were also simultaneously held at 8 different places in the state to curb malnutrition and address common health problems among children in the 0 to 6 years group.

In her speech, Smt. Patel said that under the leadership of then CM Shri Narendrabhai Modi, she launched various welfare schemes for women and children as a minister for Women and Child Development Department.

Smt. Patel explained the importance of physical fitness of a child and stated that physically weak child has to face domestic and social indifference and ultimately become a victim of inferiority complex. She also said that birth defects of slow development of a child could be a reason of poor economical condition of the family or hereditary or lack of awareness and care.

Talking on the state government’s initiative to identify such children and give proper treatment, the CM shared that initially only height and weight were measured during the health check-up programs, but now muscular strength and swollen legs are also checked. She expressed her gratitude towards all the paediatricians of the state for their extended support.

In this program, Smt. Patel talked about the various precautionary measures taken by the state government for adolescent girls, pregnant women and children right from their birth to avoid future health related complications. She proudly shared that now the ratio of institutional delivery has been increased to 95% instead of earlier 55% in the state. She asked to take the advantage of ‘108’ ambulance service for timely hospitalization. She also told that Rs. 6000 is given as support for nutritional food supplements to pregnant and lactating mothers.

The Gujarat CM spoke about the health department’s campaign to wipe out cases of deformity like cleft lips and cleft palate with the help of micro-surgery and also about orthodontic treatment to be provided absolutely free by the state government. She also informed about free diabetes check-up camps. She also talked about state-wide screening campaign for breast and cervical cancer to be launched from 1st of June. She advised the women to go for diagnostic without any kind of hesitation and added that ignoring early symptoms of such diseases can be risky.

Smt. Patel, on this occasion, reiterated the benefits of MA Vatsalya Yojana, launched for the free treatment upto Rs. 2 lakh of the families earning less than Rs. 1.20 lakh per annum, to ensure the poor did not die for want of treatment.

Smt. Patel also described the recently launched ‘Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana’ and advised women to secure their lives by taking the policies offered at a very nominal premium.

The CM felicitated Anganwadi workers by presenting ‘Mata Yashoda Award’ and congratulated all the 886 award winning Anganwadi workers and helpers across the state for taking unmatched motherly care of tiny tots and building Healthy and Happy 21st century.

On this occasion, Minister of State for Women and Child Welfare Smt. Vasuben Trivedi, MP Shri Ramsinh Rathwa, MLAs, Chairperson of the Child Rights Commission Smt. Rameshwari Pandya, Chief Secretary Shri D. J. Pandian, other senior government officers, doctors, parents and people in large number remained present.
