Gujarat CM Proudly Declares Surat as India’s First Open Defecation Free City while Dedicating Development Works and LIG houses at Surat

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel today during her visit to Surat, dedicated development works worth Rs. 418 crore and also declared Surat as the first Open Defecation Free (ODF) city in the country.

On this occasion, CM Smt. Patel shared that today is a very special day for Surat city and a matter of pride for every citizen. It is to be noted that 6130 toilets have been constructed in houses without toilet facility, 66 community toilets are available, 100 public toilets and 14 mobile toilets are also available and 68 new public toilets are under construction in Surat under ‘Clean India Mission’. Expressing her delight, she congratulated Surat Municipal Corporation for this commendable achievement and also appreciated citizens for their commitment towards cleanliness and setting an example in the country.

In this event organized by Surat Muncipal Corporation at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University Convention Hall, CM Smt. Patel allotted LIG houses worth Rs. 126 crore to 1601 beneficiaries and also performed computerized draw for 2584 affordable houses. She shared that continuing the state government’s commitment to housing for all, a total 11,017 houses are about to be completed in Surat under ‘Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana’. Total 1.50 lakh houses have already been handed-over to beneficiaries, 1.10 lakh are under construction and work order has been given for 0.80 lakh affordable houses, she added. She further stated that our dream is to make Surat a slum-free city in near future. She went on to say that to see the smile on the faces of people belonging to economically weaker sections when they get low-cost house having modern facilities is the real achievement of Gatisheel Gujarat. She wished for a better life of all beneficiaries and appealed to maintain cleanliness and save water.

CM Smt. Patel also dedicated other developmental works of SMC including a flyover bridge at Anuvrat on Udhna-Magdalla road, Water Distribution Station with overhead tank and 27 tipper trucks.

Talking about the various pro-people decisions and schemes of the state government, CM Smt. Patel assured that the BJP led government is sensitive about the welfare of poor, middle-class and needy people.

On this occasion, Surat Mayor Smt. Asmitaben Siraya, Minister Shri Nanubhai Vanani, MLAs, MPs, Chairmen of SMC committees, other dignitaries, beneficiaries and people in large number remained present.
