Surat will be the first city in Gujarat to have 24 hours water supply facility

The city of Surat will be perhaps the first city in Gujarat to have 24 hours water supply facility.

A proposal of tender process for execution of pilot project has been made in the standing committee meeting of Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC).

The pilot project according to sources will be executed in Mota Varachha, Utran, Amroli, Kosad, Chhaparbhatha, Variyav areas. The tenders were floated, and tender of Shri Rang Sales Corporation’s Accord Marketing and Services, Mumbai is likely to get approval. A decision on this will be made on Monday.

The contractor will be given five years contract. The SMC will supply daily 25-50 MLD water which would be later scaled up to 90 MLD. The SMC will also give rights to use the main line and internal pipe line network. The contractor will be responsible for water supply and maintenance of network. He will put meters and execute the billing process. The contractor will be responsible to solve complains regarding leaking in a day.

Around one lakh people will get round the clock water supply facility. One shall need to pay Rs 4.50 per 1000 liter water. SMC will collect the money. Contractor will be paid Rs 20.59 crore for five years. SMC is likely to earn more than Rs 60 crore through this project which is likely to serve over four lakh people.
