Gujarat CM Addresses Workshop Organized under the Accessible India Campaign in Ahmedabad

In a workshop organized in Ahmedabad under the Central Government’s Accessible India Campaign, Guj CM Smt. Anandiben Patel urged leaders of various NGOs working for the welfare of the disabled to provide recommendations-suggestions to the state government on how the lives of the disabled can be improved. CM Smt. Patel even proposed to construct an ITI exclusively for the disabled.

Expressing the government’s commitment towards providing a favorable environment for the disabled, CM Smt. Patel said that the government has initiated efforts to ensure that places like government offices, hospitals, schools-colleges, railway stations, bus stations, toilets etc. become more accessible for the disabled.

Guj CM Smt. Patel informed that the government is diligently working to ensure that the disabled also get equal opportunities. Establishing her point that the government should be receptive towards the hardships faced by disabled people, CM Smt. Patel said that the government is working to ensure that disabled people get the same amount of assistance that common people receive from the government.

She said that the assistance provided by the government to the disabled for buying equipments has been increased from Rs. 6000 to Rs. 10000. Moreover, if two disabled people get married, they would receive a total assistance of Rs. 1 lakh from the government.

CM Smt. Patel said that disabled people in the state get special training to boost their skills. Also, an arrangement has been made with various institutions like the Labor and Employment Department and Skill development Centers to provide required training for competitive examinations of state and central government.

CM Smt. Patel further added that the state government already provides various benefits to disabled people like lifelong disability certificate, Skill development training, encouragement to participate in sports, free treatment of club foot, passes for ST buses, etc. She also urged leaders of various NGOs to provide their valuable suggestions to further improve the facilities for disabled people.

CM Smt. Patel appealed citizens to develop awareness so that disabled people can be provided equal opportunities and status in various fields of life like education, healthcare etc.
