CM joins people in Mahavir Janmakalyanka celebration at Rajkot

Narendra Modi challenges people who are defaming Gujarat by spreading lies regarding the protection of cow-progeny and pasture land

At the celebration event to mark the Mahavir Jayanti in Rajkot Chief Minister dared the Central government asking that why the Centre is not enacting law to protect cow-progeny?

At the religious gathering held as a part of Mahavir birth anniversary celebration, the leaders of Jain community greeted the Chief Minister. Mr Modi offered prayer to the Lord Mahavir and paid obeisance to the Jain acharyas and munis. He also felicitated the donors of Jain and other communities.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister challenged the Central government for not enacting law for the protection of cow-progeny. Gujarat government made persisted efforts in the Supreme Court for ordinance of the law for protecting cows. “It is most unfortunate that on the land of Mahavir, we need to struggle to stop animal slaughtering and for the protection of cows”, he said.

There are some elements who spread lies to defame Gujarat government regarding the protection of cow-progeny. The truth is that the State government has even ordered to close the slaughter houses during the days of Paryushan. Through the medium of cattle health fair the state government has provided dental treatment and done cataract operation of the animals. It has also succeeded in completely abolishing around 112 animal diseases.

Some people also try to defame Gujarat and fool the people regarding the issue of pasture land. They should know that Gujarat has produced the highest milk in entire India during last decade. This would not have happened without enough availability of the pasture land, he said.

Mr. Modi said the Centre's policies are ironic in this matter. At one hand the Centre imposes ban on cotton export while on the other hand it gives subsidy to the export of mutton. Jain people should come together and create there influence against the crooked policies of the Central government, he said.

There is a world-wide awareness for the organic food nowadays. This is the time to make popular the Jain food festival, which will also push the mantra of ahinsa, Chief Minister said. He also called upon the Jain community to come up with a movement to promote vegetarianism in the world.

Speaking on the occasion Finance Minister Vajubhai Vala asked people to be committed in spreading the message of non-violence. “We earned wealth from the society and we should be committed to give it back to the society”, he said.

Former MP and Jain leader Vijay Rupani said that all the four sects of Jain community have been celebrating Mahavir Janmakalyanak together in Rajkot since last 25 years. He exhorted people to imbibe the principals of non-violence and aparigrah.

Rajkot mayor Janak Kotak, Former mayor Dhansukh Bhanderi, MLAs Govind Patel and Bhanuben Babariya, Jain acharyas, munis, mahasatis and leaders of Jain community were present on the occasion.
