In the run up to Vibrant Gujarat, CM addresses Sparkle exhibition 2015 in Surat

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel inaugurated Gems and Jewelley exhibition Sparkle 2015 at Surat today. She lauded the progress of Surat in various sectors and assured state government’s support in its further development.

CM Smt Patel acknowledged state’s significant contribution in the country’s gems and jewellery industry. She said that it is a matter of pride that Gujarat accounts for 85% of the total jewellery production of India. Gujarat exports 80% of India’s diamonds, she added.

In her address, CM Smt Patel also mentioned that Surat is gearing up to house a world-class diamond bourse that will prove to be an effective platform to bring all those interested in the diamond business under one proof. Planning to set up a dedicated diamond SEZ in Surat is under progress, she added.

CM Smt Patel shared that as per the recently launched Industry policy, special training centres for various skills required in diamond business will be set up in Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot and Bhavnagar.

In her address CM Smt Patel said that the gems, jewellery and diamond industry of Surat has the potential to actively contribute in realizing Hon’ble PM’s vision of Make in India and Skill India. On the occasion she marked the launch of Geographic Information System usage for Surat.

She said that GIS will facilitate efficient delivery of government services and will help to make the administration more effective and transparent.

CM Smt Patel shared that in the last two years, out of a total 164 approved TP schemes by the state government, 40 TP schemes belong to Surat. The state government will continue to support the progress of city in various sectors, she added.

The three-day exhibition is organized in the run up to Vibrant Gujarat by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The exhibition has more than 150 stalls, with as many as 80 participants from across India.

Consul Generals of Sri Lanka and Thailand, State Finance Minister Shri Saurabhbhai Patel were among the others who were present on the occasion.
