CM Smt Patel inaugurated annual conference of Neurospinal Surgeons in Ahmedabad

Hon’ble CM Smt Anandiben Patel inaugurated SPINE 2014, Annual conference of Neurospinal Surgeons Association of India (NSSA) in Ahmedabad today. About 50 eminent faculties and 300 delegates from India and across the world will participate in debates on various subjects of spinal diseases and injuries. On the occasion, CM Smt Patel said that it is important for such an event to be held in Gujarat at a time when Gujarat has evolved to be a remarkable medical tourism hub.

CM Smt Patel said that India stands in a paradoxical situation. On one hand, Indian doctors are one of the best doctors in the world and people all over have full trust in the medical talent available here. She expressed grief saying that on the other hand, people of India are suffering in terms of timely and affordable medical treatment. India lags behind in terms of doctor-patient ratio, bed-patient ratio, even for availability of paramedical staff. The sheer size of India’s population makes government health facilities inadequate and out of reach for the poor and neo-middle class people.

Talking about the persistent efforts made by Government of Gujarat in the direction of providing better health services to all sections of people, CM Smt Patel said that two years back government introduced Mukhya Mantri Amrutam Yojana, popularly known as MA yojana for providing health cover for critical illnesses to families living below poverty line. The poor can have access to the best of treatment in private super speciality hospitals free of cost, upto Rs.2 lakhs per year. The new Vatsalya yojana gives access also to the women and children of families having annual income upto Rs.1.20 lakhs, she added.

CM Smt Patel said that Gujarat is also focussing on medical and para-medical education. In last 13 years, the number of medical colleges has increased from 9 to 19 and medical seats from 1125 to 2930, she added. Also, Gujarat has increased the intake capacity of its paramedical institutes almost six times in last five years.

Referring to PM Shri Narendra Modi’s vision, CM Smt Patel said that PM Shri Modi has been talking of providing not just health insurance, but also health assurance. She appealed the delegates, faculties and other professionals present on the occasion to moot an idea of Professionals’ Social Responsibility, on the lines of Corporate Social Responsibility. This will facilitate the process of improving health facilities and providing it to every needy person of the country, she added.
