Gujarat CM performs groundbreaking ceremony of food processing unit, waste to biogas plant and biowaste fertilizer plant in Surat

Gujarat CM Smt. Anandiben Patel performed groundbreaking ceremony for food processing unit, waste to Biogas and Biowaste fertilizer plants at Surat’s Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) today evening.

On the occasion, CM Smt. Patel informed that the food processing unit at APMC Surat will benefit 10,000 farmers of 3 districts. Two collection centres will also be set up in Navsari and Valsad to facilitate the farmers in this region. Talking about storage techniques to prevent spoilage of agricultural products, CM Smt. Patel stated that these collection centres will have adequate facilities for storage including cold storage and irradiation facility which will boost exports of agricultural produce and help farmers earn high income.

This unit will come up at cost of Rs 25 crore and have capacity of processing 72 tonnes per day. It will also have automatic aseptic plant. Biogas and biowaste fertilizer plant will be of 50 tonnes capacity and generate 2000 kg of biogas and 16000 litre of liquid fertilizers per day.

Highlighting the need to shift to organic farming for better health and conservation of environment, CM Smt. Patel said that farmers of the state should adopt organic farming which would lead to good health and better crops. Also, the demand for organic produce has increased across the world and farmers can export their organic products and earn high income. She expressed that the government is committed to encouraging organic farming and as a step in this direction the first organic farming university of the nation will be set up in the state.

She added that high quality products are in high demand in abroad at times electricity and gas can be produced from the waste of fruits like Mango, Sapodilla, Papaya after taking the pulp from them and can be used for factory units is the scope of Project.

She also highlighted the need to adopt modern techniques and technology to boost production and storage to earn high margin. She added that farmers are not up to date when it comes to new techniques and as a result cannot get optimum produce, so the APMC is also working on research and has decided to establish research centers at all Krishi universities.

Talking about helping farmers increase exports of their produce, CM Smt. Patel said that online marketing is an efficient way of exporting and selling products as produce can be sold and marketed online. It will enable farmers to not only sell their produce locally but also globally. She added that the union government has started setting up e-markets at APMCs to enable farmers in selling their produce. Through e-markets, farmers can show the quality of their produce directly to buyers before shipping and prevent misunderstandings.

On the occasion, CM Smt. Patel proudly declared that five more nagarpalikas of Surat are now Open Defecation Free. She handed over the citation by felicitating five Municipalities of Surat District as open defecation free Municipalities.

She had already declared Surat city ODF last month. She congratulated the people for their contribution and support in this endeavor of the government to make Surat ODF. She added that without the support of people this wouldn’t have been possible.

Various dignitaries present at the event included State Education Minister Nanubhai Vanani, State Assembly Deputy Whip Ajay Kumar Choksi, President District Panchayat Suresh Patel, Surat Mayor Smt Ashmita Shiroya, Surat District BJP President Dilipshingh Rathod, City president of Urban Development Nitinbhai and others. Public leaders, officials, media, A.P.M.C. office-bearers along with people in huge number also remained present.
