Gujarat CM Smt Anandiben Patel kicked off the 7th edition of state-wide Garib Kalyan Mela from Jamnagar today

Launching the seventh edition of Garib Kalyan Mela at Jamnagar city today, Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel said this initiative has opened up new frontiers of economic growth for the rural poor, particularly the women.

On the occasion, CM Smt Patel distributed assistance worth Rs 5.80 crore among 10,559 beneficiaries. In seventh edition of Garib Kalyan Mela, the state government will hold 127 melas covering over a million poor and deprived people and distribute assistance worth Rs. 1,000 crore.

CM Smt Patel said that since 2009, six editions of Garib Kalyan Mela have been held through which assistance worth Rs 12000 crore has been distributed to over 81 lakh beneficiaries, through 1098 melas conducted across the state. This initiative has a specific agenda, to help the poor and the deprived section of the society to be self-reliant and to empower the women, she added.

CM Smt Patel also appealed the people to actively participate in state-wide ‘Swachhta Abhiyaan’ (Cleanliness Drive) starting in Gujarat from October 2, the birth-anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
