of Unity will boost tourism and facilitate employment opportunities – Gujarat’s CM

The work order for construction of 182-meter tall Statue of Unity was issued to L&T Company today in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel. Shri K Srinivas of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust formally handed over the work order to S N Subrahmanyan, board member of L&T.

Statue of Unity will be the world’s largest statue, a structure that will be 182 m tall, twice as tall as Statue of Liberty. CM Smt Patel said that this is a step forward towards realizing PM Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’. Visitors at this statue will be able to get a picturesque view of Narmada dam from a height of almost 450 feet. Thus this memorial will help boost tourism in the state and facilitate employment opportunities, said CM.

CM Smt Patel said that the construction work of the statue will be completed in four years at a cost of Rs 2,989 crores. The Government of India had in its last budget allotted Rs 200 crores for this purpose, thus declaring it as a national project.
