Gandhinagar, Tuesday: The Gujarat State Road Development Corporation (GSRDC), under Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, has signed a concession agreement with VALECHA PBA Consortium for improvement and widening of 77-km long Bhuj-Bhachau Road with the latest infrastructure facilities on Built Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis.

The agreement was signed by consortium's chief executive officer Thakur S.B. Singhe and GSRDC managing director K.J. Prajapati in presence of R&B Minister Anandiben Patel and Principal Secretary (R&B) S.S. Rathod.

While the concessionaire will invest the entire cost of the project, it would not cost Government of Gujarat (GOG) anything. It is estimated the premium of Rs.374-crore will go to GOG over the coming 20 years.

The work will begin in November 2011 to be completed in 18 months. The works include widening all culverts, two major and 24 minor bridges, besides providing two railways over bridges, eight underpasses, one truck lay-bye, retro reflective sign boards, thermoplastic road markings to ensure road safety, two toll plazas with standby ambulance, crane, medical aid, telephone kiosks and such facilities. About 29-km stretches on this State Highway-44 nearer to Bhuj and Bhachau towns will be made four-lane.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Patel wished consortium chairman Anil Harish and managing director Jagdish Valecha successful completion of the project, with special environmental care taken in tree plantation, recharging wells and other water conservation projects on either side of the road.
