CM appeals the farmers to practice organic farming at a seminar on Farm Income Insurance

Presiding over the seminar on Farm Income Insurance, organized at Mahatma Mandir, Gujarat Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel said that optimum benefits of such schemes should reach to the farmers so that they can be protected against uncertainties of nature and markets. Responding to Government of India’s move towards farm income insurance from crop insurance, Government of Gujarat has organised this seminar for experts to deliberate, which was inaugurated today by Union Minister of Agriculture Shri Radhamohan Singh.

CM Smt. Patel expressed that with the help of various innovations, developments and expertise in the field of agriculture in Gujarat, the agriculture growth rate of Gujarat has reached 10.8. On the occasion, she also encouraged the farmers to practice organic farming and drip irrigation in order to avail better produce and earnings out of it. She added that Government of Gujarat will soon come up with women-friendly schemes in agriculture.

Talking about the growth of Gujarat in agriculture, State Agriculture Minister Shri Babubhai Bokhiria said that Gujarat stands first in the production of many significant crops like cotton, castor-oil, onion, potato and groundnut. Union Minister of Agriculture Shri Radhamohan Singh also congratulated Government of Gujarat for its progressive approach in the field of agriculture. He said that empowering the farmers will lead to empowerment of the nation and so more welfare schemes for farmers should be implemented. He shared that with the vision of strengthening the farmers, Gujarat has 28 Krishi Vigyan Centres and more such centres will be set up in seven other districts.

Besides farmers and experts of the field, representatives from Indian Government, Agricultural secretaries, Managing Directors from State Marketing Boards were also present at the seminar, who deliberated on various aspects of farm income insurance.

This seminar is organised as a part of the on-going three-day Agri-Tech Asia exhibition where more than 200 companies from 14 nations have participated to display latest innovations and developments in farm technology and dairy farming. Smt. Patel appealed Kisan Sangh and many other young farmers to attend this exhibition and come up with ideas that can be incorporated by Government of Gujarat.
