GOG initiatives in skill-devpt can be replicated across India with motto of ‘Har haath ko hunnar’, Guj CM at NITI Aayog meet at Chhatisgarh

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel attended an important meeting of NITI Aayog Sub-Group of Chief Ministers on Skill Development at Raipur in Chhattisgarh today.

During the meeting, the CM had very interesting interaction and shared Gujarat’s successful initiatives for skill development, resulting in an increase of annual training capacity from 1 lakh to 11 lakh in a decade. She said that our initiatives range from ITIs on PPP mode to Centres of Excellence, Craft Clusters and PM-award winning Kaushalya Vardhan Kendras. She also stated that we not only impart core-skills & soft-skills training, but also ensure job placements to youth, men & women across rural & urban Gujarat. Many of these focused initiatives undertaken by the Gujarat Government can be replicated across India with the visionary motto of ‘Har haath ko hunnar’, she added.

Giving the brief details of the Gujarat model of skilling, the CM shared that the state government has developed close ties for skilling with industries like Tata Motors, Pidilite, L&T, Siemens, etc. She also described the concept of flexi MoU adopted by Gujarat for need based training in major industries. She also discussed about Industrial Kaushalya Vardhan Kendra (i-KVK) where the industry itself trains and prepares required manpower. The CM also shed light on the schemes like UMEED, the scheme for empowerment of urban poor, SCOPE, an initiative to develop proficiency of English among youth, eMPOWER, a state wide program for computer training, etc. Smt. Patel informed about innovative approach of Gujarat Government to make women self-reliant by organizing Rakhi Mela and also about initiatives of skilling for rural artisans to improve their quality of life. She also talked about the plan of setting up a separate Skill Development University in Gujarat. The CM also proudly shared that ITI students in Gujarat are considered as equivalent to Std. 10 and 12 and can get admission in Diploma Engineering College.

All the other CMs, who are members of the Sub-Group, appreciated the steps taken by Gujarat to boost the ‘Skill India’ campaign, launched by PM Shri Narendra Modi.

CM of Chhattisgarh Dr. Raman Singh, Convener of the Sub-Group and Punjab CM Shri Prakash Singh Badal, Assam CM Shri Tarun Gogoi, Tamil Nadu CM Shri O. Panneerselvam, Himachal Pradesh CM Shri Virbhadra Singh, Secretaries and officials from NITI Aayog also remained present in this meeting.
