Government spokesperson – Health Minister Shri Jaynarayan Vyas has appealed people to register their fixed properties as per the new jantri rates that became effective from April 1, 2011, and not to get mislead by half truths. He further said that government is open to hear problems and representations of people regarding the new jantri.

Spokes Minister said that there is no provision in the Stamp Act, to give benefit of old jantri rates if the stamp paper has been bought prior to the new jantri. Section-23 of Registration Act 1908 only talks about registering the property within four months. Moreover, as per Gujarat Registration Rule, it is the duty of sub-registrar to check whether the proper stamp has been used or not at the time of registration. And so, it is needed that people register their fixed properties as per the new jantri rates without getting misled on it, Spokes Minister said.

Shri Vyas said that despite there is no provision to invite suggestions before preparing jantri rates in Mumbai Stamp Act 1958, state government asked for inputs from farmers, builder association, industrialists and financial organizations.

As the new jantri became effective from April 1, fixed properties then after, have to be registered as per the new rates, Spokes Minister said.
