Govt of Guj is taking all precautionary measures in the wake of impending cylcone Nilofar – CM

Hon. CM Smt. Anandiben Patel provided guidance in a high-level meeting organized to review the anticipatory measures taken by the State Govt. to cope up with the situation of possible natural calamity which may arise in the coastal districts of the State due to ‘Nilofar’ Cyclone originated in the Arabian Sea.

In this context, Smt. Patel gave instructions to all the in-charge Ministers and Secretaries of the concerned districts to reach in their respective areas and provide directions for all the precautionary works going on to combat the possible cyclone by staying in constant coordination with the district administration.

Chief Secretary Dr. Varesh Sinha and other senior level secretaries remained present in this meeting and gave details on the operations of the concerned departments.

Smt. Patel warned all the concerned district administration to remain attentive and to take precautionary steps to prevent casualties. She also gave instructions to provide timely intimation to fishermen families for not going to the sea and to ensure that the fishermen who have already gone for fishing come back within 24 hours.

Hon. CM collected thorough information on the preparedness of providing alternative power and the supply of water, essential commodities, storage of medicines, etc. in the possible cyclonic situation.

Considering the seriousness of the cyclone, Smt. Patel instructed to deploy about 10 NDRF teams in the coastal districts and also got details of the arrangements made to keep the State Reserve Police (SRP) force ready for rescue and relief operations.

Hon. CM also gave instructions to keep comprehensive coordination with regard to the intensity, speed and divergence of ‘Nilofar’ cyclone by staying in constant contactwith Meteorological Department and coast-guards to keep a close eye on the situation.

She emphatically said that the concerned district collectors must see that atmosphere of fear is not created or rumours are not spread, and also said that people continuously get the correct information.

She added that the Cabinet Secretary of the Central Govt. is providing guidance regarding this possible cyclone by staying in constant contact with the Chief Secretary and other senior Secretaries of the State.

In this meeting, Chief Secretary Dr. Varesh Sinha collected the detailed information from the secretaries of the different departments on their readiness to cope up with the possible disastrous situation and informed the CM.

He informed that there are chances of strong wind at the speed of 100 to 150 KM with rain due to ‘Nilofar’ cyclone originated in the Arabian Sea and the possibility of its divergence towards coastal regions of Gujarat within 72 hours, but the administration is alert and fully prepared to combat the disaster.

Senior officers of the Meteorological Department, Air Force, Coast-guard, NDRF and Army also remained present in this meeting.
