Gujarat CM Announces ‘Atal SNEH Yojana’ For Neonatal Care During School Health Check-up Program in Gandhinagar

Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Vijay Rupani here today announced the Atal ‘Screening of Newborn for Enhancement of Health’ (SNEH) Yojna to be started in the state from the former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s birthday on December 25, 2016.

CM Shri Rupani was speaking at a function to mark the launch of the statewide School Health Check-up Program of conducting medical tests of 1.50-crore school children in the state by 4-lakh medics.

He said the State Government is sensitive to health of all, including scheme like MA Vatsalyam Amritam for school going children and adults. He said the proposed Atal SNEH Yojna would take care of the newborns. It will be taken up as a ‘Tapasya’ and conducted by doctors as well as female health workers, Asha workers, national child health teams and others.

Giving details of the new scheme, CM Shri Rupani said, it would take care of neural tube defects, cleft lift and palate, clubbed foot, congenital cataract, congenital deafness, congenital heart diseases, retinopathy of prematurely, Down syndrome and other defects and diseases in government or private maternity homes. And it will be regularly followed up by medical officers and health workers. In serious cases, he said, cases would be referred to nearest medical centres on emergency basis. He said that wellbeing of the children is necessary for the future generation, health of the society and for a strong nation.

CM Shri Rupani said the State Government would soon announce the new Health Policy, with focus on training super specialty doctors and modern medicare in remote areas and doubling the seats in medical colleges. He said the government is alive to affordable medicare of the lower and middle income group people, particularly in the remote areas.

The Chief Minister flagged off 25 new ambulances, linked to rural mobile healthcare service.

Those present on the occasion included Education Minister Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasma, Minister of State for Health Shri Shankarbhai Chaudhry, Parliamentary Secretary Shri Jethabhai Solanki, MLA Shri Ashok Patel, Gandhinagar Mayor Shri Pravinbhai Patel, Health Commissioner Shri J. P. Gupta, Principal Secretary Health Shri Pankaj Kumar and Principal Secretary Education Smt Sunayna Tomar.
