“Modernization is a prerequisite for development of any city” – Gujarat CM

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel performed ground breaking ceremony of various development works worth Rs. 399.04 crore of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) today evening.

The development works include drainage gravity line laying work using micro tunnelling on BPC Road, total 1554 houses under Mukhyamantri Gruh Yojana in different areas and a town hall with modern facilities in Sayajipura area.

Talking about the use of modern foreign technology for urban development, Smt. Patel stated that Vadodara will be the first city to have used micro tunnelling system. She added that on successful implementation, this technology will be used in other cities of the state too. The CM shared that keeping the need of the urban development in mind, Rs. 4000 crore have been sanctioned for Urban Development in the budget. She appealed to use this amount with proper planning and effective implementation. She also said that modernization is a prerequisite for development of any city, but at the same time, there is a need to develop a sense of ownership among citizens.

On this occasion, Smt. Patel told that to make quality educational, health and other civic facilities available to the citizens is our responsibility and modern technology must be used for efficiency. She also proposed to make use of common infrastructure by different departments for economical and efficient functioning. The CM said to adopt scientific approach for cleanliness and also suggested to study urban planning from the developed countries.

The CM stated that the development in the state is the result of vision of Shri Narendra Modi who celebrated the year 2004 as Urban Development Year, and since then the state government had started allocating the grants to Municipal Corporations and Municipalities. She also told to plan the development on larger scale with the concept of ‘Smart Cities’ as defined by our PM Shri Narendra Modi.

Smt. Patel shared about state government’s various health related schemes for children and women and appealed to take benefit. She also expressed her worry about the wastage of water and added that the government is planning to install water meters to make habit of saving water.

The CM wished the corporation for the successful implementation and advised to work unitedly for the betterment of the citizens.

On this occasion, Education Minister Shri Nitinbhai Patel, MLAs, President of Jilla Panchayat, District Collector Smt. Avantika Singh, DDO Dr. Kuldip Arya, other dignitaries and citizens in large number remained present.
