Gujarat CM exhorts beneficiaries to dream big and work hard to live quality life at Garib Kalyan Mela in Jesar of Bhavnagar

On the last day of 8th edition of Garib Kalyan Mela, Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel handed over welfare assistance to the beneficiaries at newly formed Jesar Taluka in Bhavnagar.

On the occasion CM Smt Patel expressed her firm determination to fight poverty by providing means of self-employment to the poor and added that various government schemes are formed for the welfare of poor and deprived strata of the society. She also said that we have to fight the battle against poverty and malnutrition by collective efforts. She stated that it is the responsibility of every elected representative to ensure public health and hygiene. Talking about the consequences of malnutrition on mother, infants and children, she shared that the state government has taken various measures to tackle it. She also condemned casteism and told to maintain harmony and unity for the social upliftment and inclusive development.

Talking on the state government’s initiatives to create healthy Gujarat, CM Smt Patel spoke about the health department’s campaign to wipe out cases of deformity like cleft lips and cleft palate with the help of micro-surgery and also about orthodontic treatment to be provided absolutely free by the state government. She also informed about free diabetes check-up camps, state-wide screening campaign for breast and cervical cancer, etc. She advised the women to go for diagnostic without any kind of hesitation and added that ignoring early symptoms of such diseases can be risky.

Stressing upon the need to generate employment, CM Smt Patel stated that because of the division of land and increased ratio of education among farmers, the younger generation will now opt for a good job in industries. She also stated that it is compulsory to follow standard rules of recruitment and it should only be merit-based. She exhorted the poor beneficiaries to dream big and work hard for economic progress and to live life with dignity and self-respect.

On this occasion, CM Smt Patel took the opportunity to share that ours is a neutral government and it cannot be biased towards any particular caste or community. The role of our government is to protect equal rights. She emphasised on working collectively for the all-round development of the state and nation building. She reaffirmed that the state government will leave no stone unturned for the upliftment of poor.

It is to be noted that through this pro-poor initiative of Garib Kalyan Mela, over 64,000 beneficiaries in Bhavnagar district received assistance and means of employment worth Rs. 648 crore this year. In the 8th edition of GKM, beneficiaries were given assistance under 360 different schemes of 22 departments of Gujarat government.

On this occasion, Rajya Sabha MP Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, MP Shri Naranbhai Kachhadiya, District Panchayat President Smt. Vimlaben Bagadia, MLAs, District BJP President Shri Harshadbhai Dave, Taluka Panchayat Presidents, Sarpanchs, Collector, DDO, social leaders, other dignitaries, beneficiaries and people in large number remained present.
