Gujarat CM presides over Second Annual Conference on Revenue Laws and Litigation Process at Gandhinagar

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel attended Second Annual Conference on Revenue Laws and the Litigation Process 2016 inaugurated by Mr. Justice R. Subhash Reddy, Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court, organized by the Revenue Department in association with the Office of the Government Law Officers and the State of Gujarat at Narmada Hall of Swarnim Sankul in Gandhinagar this morning.

In her address, CM Smt. Patel asked revenue officials and government lawyers to keep the welfare of people in mind and go by the ground realities instead of files alone to resolve disputes before taking appropriate decisions.

CM Smt. Patel said that it is important to focus on the stability of title and undertake measures to enhance the transparency and robustness of revenue processes. She also stated that the administrative officers’ job is to ensure amicable settlement and litigants get justice without delay. If the officials take decision after studying and understanding the issue, there would be minimum disputes. The Revenue Department is interconnected with several other departments.

Looking towards the need for improvements and reforms, CM Smt. Patel said that the Revenue Department for the first time in 100 years has undertaken a campaign to resurvey and correct the land records and handover the documents along with maps and measurements to the original landholders. She asked the administration to deliver judgment after maximum three hearings through transparency and ensure the litigants’ trust on the government.

CM Smt. Patel shared that Gujarat has always been progressive in the implementation of reforms in revenue laws and procedures as well as online access to land records. I am sure that the conference will be very helpful in bringing further amendments to substantive law and procedures for the convenience of farmers.

On this occasion, a CD of 170 relevant judgments by the Hon. High Court and Hon. Supreme Court and a book containing the latest notifications, resolutions, and circulars of the Revenue Department was also released.

The conference was also attended by Minister of State for Law Shri Pradeepsinh Jadeja, State Law Commission Chairman Justice Shri M. B. Shah, Gujarat Chief Secretary Shri G. R. Aloria, Advocate General Shri Kamalbhai Trivedi, Additional Advocate General Shri Prakashbhai Jani, Principal Secretary for Revenue Shri K. Srinivas, Principal Secretary Ms Sangita Singh, senior Secretaries, District Collectors and Government Lawyers, among others.
