Towards realizing the dream of ‘Slum Free Gujarat’, Gujarat CM lays foundation stone of slum rehabilitation housing project in Kalol

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel today laid foundation stone of housing scheme of 2421 houses as a part of slum rehabilitation at the cost of about Rs.98 crore in Kalol town of Gandhinagar district. On the same line, draws and foundation stone laying ceremonies for housing schemes in various parts of the state were also simultaneously conducted by the State cabinet ministers.

On this occasion, Smt. Patel said that having own house is always a dream of everybody, but to realize it is not possible for everyone which forces them to take shelter in slum. She blamed the Congress for never taking the issue of slums and slum dwellers since independence. She said that the formation of slums need not be inevitable with rapid urbanization. She shared that to alleviate the poor living condition of slum dwellers, the government initiated the project of housing for urban poor and decided to make Gujarat a slum free state.

The CM suggested to the office bearers of the municipality to use the grant given by the state government in planned manner for development on bigger scale. She also told the officials of the municipality to take the responsibility of the works like taking care of Anganwaids as a social responsibility.

Speaking about the cleanliness, Smt. Patel stated that the habit of cleanliness has to be cultivated. She warned the citizens and said that maintaining cleanliness is not the responsibility of municipality but of everybody. She advised to instill the values of cleanliness in children to create a cultured future generation.

Congratulating the municipality and citizens of Kalol on becoming the first ‘Slum Free Town’ of the state, she also cautioned the authority to be vigil and to see that the slums do not get made again and the new houses are not misused. This housing scheme is to provide a better living option to slum dwellers, she added. The CM also expressed her wish to build pre-fabricated buildings in the state in future.
