Gandhinagar, Wednesday: Gujarat Government has decided to celebrate the state-level 65th Independence Day function on August 15, 2011 at Nadiad in Kheda district, ministers-spokespersons Jay Narayan Vyas and Saurabh Patel announced here today.

They said the decision is part of the government's policy to celebrate Independence Day, Republic Day and Gujarat's Foundation Day at different places in the state in different year, deviating from the usual tradition of hosting it only in the state capital, with a view to involving people's participation.

A grand cultural function is arranged the previous evening. A number of ministers and parliamentary secretaries converge at the place for the occasion, start or dedicate people-oriented projects specific to the district.

Freedom fighters of the district are specially remembered, befitting the occasion. People living in each and every village go celebration mode. This gives an opportunity to the people to feel proud of their freedom struggle and also instill in them patriotism and a sense of responsibility towards the nation, they said.

Gujarat had earlier celebrated the state-level Independence Day functions at Patan (2003), Anand (2004), Himatnagar (2005), Dahod (2006), Mehsana (2007), Palanpur (2008), Narmada-Rajpipla (2009) and Rajkot (2010).
