Guj CM directs officials to extend health care, restore electricity-water supply during review meet held in wake of heavy rains

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel today held a high-level meet to review relief and rescue operations in wake of heavy rains across the state, specially in areas of Banaskantha, Patan and Kutch.

CM Smt Patel directed the senior officials of concerned departments to closely monitor the relief operations and ensure that basic needs like electricity, water, health, road are available to the citizens in affected districts. She stated that gauging the heavy rainfall-like situation in coming days, schools and aanganwadis should not work for two to three days in affected districts. CM Smt Patel informed that state government will extend Rs 4 lakh assistance in cases of human life lost, and clearly directed the District Collectors to immediately extend other necessary grants, cash doles, assistance over animal-deaths and loss of property and valuables.

Reviewing the situation closely across the state, CM Smt Patel directed officials related to Electricity Department to speed up the work to bring back lives to normalcy in 2929 villages and 20 sub-stations submerged in water where electric supply has been affected. She stated that all efforts should be put in by the district administration to extend necessary services like police, ambulance, fire brigade, water and electric supply to the affected people. Senior officials of various departments present in the meeting informed and updated the Chief Minister about various details related to the rains across the state.

During the meeting it was informed that four NDRF teams and two SRP teams have been operational in relief measures at worst-affected areas of Banaskantha, while one NDRF and two BSF teams have been deployed in Kutch.

CM Smt Patel also guided the officials to initiate intensive cleanliness drive to pulverize fear of epidemics and exhorted Health Department to begin chlorination process and deploy mobile dispensaries to extend all possible health care to the people.
