Gujarat CM Stresses on Taking Education Beyond Academic Knowledge During Shala Praveshotsav Program in Mehsana

On the third and last day of this year’s Shala Praveshotsav and Kanya Kelavani campaign for rural areas, Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel visited Wasai Primary School in Mehsana district and wished newly enrolled children for their bright future.

Explaining the objective of this flagship program of the government, CM Smt Patel stated that this annual drive is carried out in the first week of June throughout the state by Chief Minister, Ministers and government officials covering about 7000 schools with poor performance as the state government has seen primary education as a grass-root sector.

On this occasion, CM Smt Patel said that considering the challenges of global competitiveness, the time has come to focus on quality education. She went on to say that we must try for the overall growth of the children so that they can stand before the world.

CM Smt Patel proudly shared that Gujarat tops in providing better infrastructure and quality education in primary schools in the country. She reiterated her commitment to create best educational atmosphere in the state. She also stressed on the need of imparting moral and cultural values in the students and said that education should go beyond academic knowledge. She stated that it is only through quality education, we can create quality citizens of tomorrow. She said that it is even now scientifically proved that learning of values starts in the mother’s womb. Talking about the importance of health, nutrition and care of adolescent girl, pregnant woman and child, she said that the state government is committed to ensure women’s health and child nutrition. She also made people aware about welfare initiatives and appealed to take benefits of several women and child centric schemes of the government.

CM Smt Patel stated that education has always been our priority and due to the herculean efforts of the BJP-led state government in last 15 years, the scenario has changed today. While sharing information on financial assistance to UPSC aspirants, she said that it is high time we change our attitude towards girl child education and give encouragement and equal opportunity to our daughters. She also thanked the donors and happily informed that The Chief Minister’s Kanya Kelavani Nidhi has so far received about Rs. 100 crore for spreading girls’ education from individuals and institutions. Lending a helping hand and giving back to the society is in our culture, she added.

CM Smt Patel said that to make our future brighter, we have to make our children stronger in terms of knowledge, culture and health. She added that the efforts of the state government are not only to increase school enrolment and reduce dropout ratio in the state, but most importantly to change mentality and enlighten them about the importance of education and health of our children.
