Chief Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi has stressed the need that the garment fashion designing sector should espouse Indian Culture and Traditions. Fashion designing research should focus on that, he added.
Chief Minister was addressing a public function at NIFT campus, Union Textile Minister Shri Dayanidhi Maran and Former Deputy Prime Minister and M.P Shri L.K.Advani were also present.
Newly built Auditorium, Girl's Hostel and Student Dining Hall were inaugurated at National Institute of Fashion Technology, at Gandhinagar today. A sum of Rs.16 crores is spent after the project. Foundation stone laying ceremony was also held for the new projects.
Traversing seamlessly from ancient to modern, Western Fashion designing ought to adopt Indian Culture and natural traditions. He expressed his confidence that NIFT would take up the challenge.
Chief Minister and the other dignitaries distributed Garment-Training certificates to Tribal-Girls. They were given training under ‘Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana'. Shri Narendrabhai Modi admired their contributions to Modern Fashion World; the tribal-girls have proved their skills. They have realised the objective of the scheme.
The floor of outsourcing can be expanded by utilizing the knowledge gained at NIFT, creativity, innovation and knowledge may open up bright employment avenues, he added.
Besides NIFT-Gandhinagar, new centres may be started at Vadodara, Surat, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar.
Chief Minister said, “Gujarat produces 7 Mts of Gold every year. Out of 10 diamonds polished in the entire world, nine are from Gujarat. We have tremendous potential and capacity. There are huge opportunities in Jewellery Designing. NIFT is the only training Institute in the State. With appropriate skilled man power in place, Gujarat may grab world markets.”
Special Khadi Apparel's Fashion show had given tremendous fillip to Khadi garments. NIFT had organised the event at Porbandar. Only Gujarat has given the Mantra of “Khadi for Fashion.”
Admiring the achievements of Gujarat, Union Textile Minister heaped up fulsome praises on Chief Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi. Gujarat has made giant strides in various sectors; credit goes to Chief Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi's visionary leadership acumen, he added.
Gujarat has explored oil& gas reserves in Andhra Pradesh, which is a neighbour State of Tamilnadu. Even though, it could not grab the opportunity. Tamilnadu also plans to form State Petroleum Corporation like Gujarat, Shri Maran added.
In cooperation with Gujarat Government, NIFT has undertaken a Research Project in man- made –fiber. It can be very useful to Gujarat and the country. Particularly to Surat and other Textile hubs, he said.
Shri Maran gave details, “Gujarat Government has sanctioned Rs.98 Lakhs for the Textile Centre. With the constructive support from NIFT and Gujarat Government, the centre would make great contributions. “He expressed his pleasure that Gujarat Government has approved fund of Rs.50 Lakhs for imparting supervisor and operator level training.
Union Minister also gave details of Sub-Training centre at Vadodara on PPP mode.

Gandhinagar M.P and former Dy.P.M, Shri L.K.Advani lauded that NIFT had earned a special niche with very good progress, in a very short span. For the progress and prosperity of the nation, Gujarat is committed to become a role-model.
Truly a historic event, as part of Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Gujarat, ‘Sansadiya Sanklpa Parishad has unanimously passed the proposal. And progress of Sabarmati Riverfront project is really remarkable. It indicates that Gujarat is poised to become role-model of development.
Shri Advanijee admired the upscale development initiatives and sincere endeavors of Shri Narendrabhai Modi of taking Gujarat to new heights. On the occasion of Swami Vivekanand Jayanti, he called upon to take Bharat Mata to Supreme heights. Let us all realise the vision of Swami Vivekanand, added Shri Advanijee.
