Gujarat CM reviews progress of increasing SSP dam on the Naremada at Kevadia

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today visited the Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP) dam site at Kevadia for spot review of the progress of increasing the height of the dam. It was her second visit to the site after June 17 last, the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved placing sluice gate atop the dam.

She was told by senior officials at the site that the work is on progress on 17 piers at three different points, while that on other piers would be taken up later. She exuded confidence that the work would be completed on time.

The Chief Minister also inspected the site of the 18-metre tall Prime Minister’s dream project Sardar Patel’s ‘Statue of Unity’, projected to be the world’s tallest statue, on the Sadhu Island in the midst of the Narmada River near the SSP dam.

Mrs. Patel said a replica of the statue would be put near the venue of the Pravsai Bharatiya Divas (PBD) function to be held at Gandhinagar from January 7 to 9, 2015, for the visitors to the PBD have a glimpse of the statue, and acquaint themselves with the life and times of the Sardar.

The statue is expected to be a big centre of attraction for tourists as the premises would also be an educational hub, a water research centre engaged into research of agricultural crops in the vicinity and an institute of higher learning for tribal students.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by MLAs Shabdasharanbhai Tadvi and Motisinh Vasava, District Panchayat President Manjibhai Vasava, Gajendrasinh Jadeja, District Collector, DDO, DSP, Narmada Nigam Director, senior engineers and office-bearers.
