“Semester System in Standard Xii Science Stream to Remain in Force in the Current Academic Year 2016-17”, Says Anandiben Patel

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel here today said that the semester system in Standard-XII Science Stream will remain in force only in the current academic year 2016-17. The decision has been taken keeping in view the future of students appearing in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Examination.

She clarified that those students who have completed Semester-1 and Semester-2 in Standard XI will have to appear for Semester-3 and Semester-4 in Standard XII. These semester examinations will be taken by the Examination Board. The students’ merit will be calculated on the basis of marks scored in Semester 1 to 4.

The ensuing examination in Mathematics Paper, to be held in August 2016 is being conducted by the Higher Secondary Education Board for Science Stream B Group students aspiring to go to Engineering Colleges. The Mathematics Questions Papers for this test will be set on the basis of MCQ and OMR, and will be of 100 Marks from the Syllabus of Standard XI and 100 Marks from Standard XII.

Students clearing this examination in Mathematics will be eligible to get admission in the last remaining seats in Engineering Colleges.

However, the Chief Minister had changed the rules for students in Standard XI from this academic year (2016-17). The examination for Semester 1 and 2 in Standard XI, which was so far conducted by the Board is being abolished, and will now be conducted by respective schools. The merit for admission to colleges will be decided for Standard XII students next year (2017-18) on the basis of examination to be conducted by the Board in March 2018.

There is no change in the syllabus of either Standard XI or XII.

The syllabus for NEET Examination in Standard XI and XII is being provided to students in Supplementary Booklets.

It is pertinent to note here that all those students who had appeared in different semester examination but were absent or have failed will have to clear Supplementary Examination to be conducted by the Board.
