Gujarat CM pays tribute to legendary folk maestro Shri Hemubhai Gadhvi at an event organized to mark his 50th death anniversary

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel attended an event ‘Yaad Hemu Aavshe’, organized to mark 50th death anniversary of legendary folk singer, musician and dramatist Shri Hemubhai Gadhvi, at Atmiya Education Campus in Rajkot today evening.

CM Smt Patel congratulated ‘Hemu Gadhvi Swarnim Smrutiparva Samiti’ for organizing such an event in his memory and also thanked for giving an opportunity to witness such tributary program.

On this occasion, CM Smt Patel said that we cannot forget the invaluable contribution of Shri Hemubhai Gadhvi in making Gujarati folk music popular across India and added that such personalities are the pride of Gujarat. She also said that the folk maestro dedicated his entire life to ‘Akashwani’ as Director of AIR Rajkot and was gifted with multi-dimensional sense of folk art.

CM Smt Patel also gave excerpts of the three days golden jubilee celebration programs, which she called as an effort to give tribute to him. She also appreciated the organization of folk events in various towns of Saurashtra every year in the memory of Hemubhai Gadhvi. Hemubhai also gave first break to many artists including Diwaliben Bhil, said CM.

While talking about the multi-faceted folk legend, CM remembered some of his milestone creations like ‘Kasumbi no Rang’, ‘Shivaji nu Halardu’ of Jhaverchand Meghani or even popular songs like ‘Mor Bani Thangat Kare’, ‘Khamma Mara Nandji na Lal’ or ‘Vahue Vagovya Khorda’. Giving the reference of one of his songs, ‘Paranyo Lave Chhe Roj Pavli…’ she stated that by the medium of folk music, Hemubhai also envisaged economical contribution of women. She portrayed him as a natural actor and also appreciated his contribution as a nationalist and social reformist using his art.

CM Smt Patel talked about numerous awards and felicitation he received at state and national level during his career. She also shared that a road and town hall in Rajkot also have been given his name as a mark of tribute. She stated that the government has always encouraged such traditional activities to boost cultural nationalism in the state. Paying her heartfelt tribute to the soul of folk, Shri Hemubhai Gadhvi, she commended the activities of ‘Hemu Gadhvi Trust’.

CM Smt Patel felicitated wife of Shri Hemubhai Gadhvi, Pu. Hariba and also launched a memoir ‘Smaran Manjusha’ on this occasion.

State Minister Shri Govindbhai Patel, MP Shri Shankarbhai Vegad, Rajkot Mayor Smt. Rakshaben Boriya, MLA Shri Kiritsinh Rana, Chairman of Pavitra Yatradham Vikas Board Shri Mahendrabhai Trivedi, Family members and trustees of Hemu Gadhvi Trust and many others graced the occasion.
