Gujarat CM Attends Felicitation Ceremony on the Occasion of 125th Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti

Hon’ble CM Smt. Anandiben Patel attended felicitation ceremony ahead of the 125th Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti today. On this occasion, she heaped praise on the awardees who served the society tirelessly by working for the upliftment and welfare of the disadvantaged, discriminated and the deprived without expecting any rewards for their efforts. Elaborating on the need to felicitate and motivate such individuals, she added that any government who doesn’t see the value of such individuals and doesn’t respect them is inefficient and incapable of looking after its citizens. Speaking on the eve of the 125th Dr. Babsaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, CM Smt. Patel described the leader and patriot that was Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. She expressed that it was Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar who gave us a constitution which sees every citizen as equal and grants equal rights to all. She added that Dr. Babasaheb wasn’t just a leader of the disadvantaged; he was a true patriot as well as a competent leader of the nation.

Talking about the societal change prompted by Dr. Ambedkar, she asserted that today also our society needs to change its mindset and be more open minded. She informed that social change can be induced by education alone is a myth and it requires a change in the perspective of people to truly bring about change in society. The blind faith, superstitions, etc. prevalent today needs to be removed to bring about a revolution.

Talking about the changes that have occurred in the state in the last 10-15 years, she informed that before the year 2000, out of every 100 students, only 47 were educated whereas today the scenario is very different. Children from every class and category of the society have access to education today and that is the sign of a truly people-centric government as it introduces policies which benefit the citizens and provide them with the amenities that they need which is exactly what Dr. Ambedkar envisioned when he worked on the constitution of our country.

She also said that to empower the youth the government introduced the Mukhya Mantri Yuva Swalamban Yojna under which students who fulfill required criteria are provided with 50% assistance in their fees for higher education. CM Smt. Patel expressed her happiness that just a few days ago, 4526 youth trained under the government’s DDUGKY initiative were handed out their placement letters.

CM Smt. Patel explained that the government is dedicated to ensuring good health of its citizens and has introduced free screening and treatment of diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer. Moreover, individuals who are diagnosed with diabetes will be provided with free medicines and blood sugar test every month for their whole lifetime. For ensuring adequate food to all citizens of the state, the government has introduced the MAA Annapurna Yojana under which BPL card holders would be provided with 5kgs of wheat and rice per person at the rate of Rs.2/kg and Rs. 3/kg respectively. Also, 200 cr has been specifically allocated in this year’s budget for MA Vatsalya Yojana.

In order to make life easier for disabled people, the government has ensured lifelong validity of disability certificates once they are issued.
