Gujarat CM assures to accelerate ‘Ease of Doing Business’ process while inaugurating Honda’s scooter manufacturing plant at Vithalapur near Ahmedabad

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel today inaugurated the fourth Indian plant of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) at Vithalapur near Ahmedabad.

On this occasion, CM Smt Patel expressed her satisfaction and said that it is a matter of pride that the largest scooter manufacturing facility in the world has been operational within 15 months of laying foundation stone in October 2014. She added that having annual capacity of mfg 12 lakh scooters, Honda’s Rs. 1100 crore Vithalapur plant will provide job opportunities to nearly 3000 people. She also informed that with Vithalapur plant becoming operational, one-fourth of the Honda scooters manufactured in India will be ‘Made in Gujarat’.

CM Smt Patel congratulated Honda Company for initiatives in the various areas including skill training, healthcare undertaken as part of their CSR activity. New manufacturing facility at Vithalapur will complement ongoing efforts to develop the region which is fast emerging as auto-hub of India. She shared that first scooter of Vithalapur facility presented to me will be handed-over to an aspiring underprivileged girl medical student. CM Smt Patel also remembered Shri Narendrabhai Modi for visualizing the development of Gujarat by bringing in such companies to set-up their plants in the state. She assured that the state government will accelerate the process of Ease of Doing Business to attract more industries in the state.

It is to be noted that the first ever scooter plant of the company only in India with an installed capacity of 12 lakhs units of automatic scooters per annum has been set up with an investment of Rs. 1100 crore. Its first production line of 6 lakh capacity was inaugurated today while the second line with similar capacity will also become operational this year taking the total capacity of the company from existing 46 lakhs to 58 lakhs with an increase of 26%.

On this occasion, the Honda Company handed over a cheque of Rs. 10 lakh to the CM for cleanliness drive.

Mamta Verma, Collector Shri Rajkumar Beniwal, MLAs, officers and employees of Honda and other invitees remained present on this occasion.
