Gujarat CM confers ‘Sahitya Ratna’ award to eminent litterateur Shri Gunvant Shah

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel today conferred ‘Sahitya Ratna’ award, institutionalized for the first time by Gujarat Sahitya Academy, to noted litterateur Shri Gunvantbhai Shah at the felicitation ceremony held at Tagore Hall in Ahmedabad this evening.

On this occasion, CM Smt Patel lauded the contribution of Shri Gunvantbhai in the field of Gujarati literature and said that when a teacher pens something, he instills the culture and offers a treasure of intellectual prosperity. She praised him for his writings on diverse topics including Mahabharata, Ramayana and Upanishads. She said that Gunvantbhai is helped reach Gujarati literature on global level and has also motivated many amateur writers. She shared with great honour that he has already been bestowed with prestigious Padma Shri award and Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak, considered the highest literary award in Gujarati literature.

CM Smt Patel stated that various forms of literature should get the opportunity of expression and we must preserve our magnificent culture. She added that literature plays an important role in shaping the society. She also said that to encourage literature is very important for the overall development of society and shared that the state government always attempts to develop an atmosphere of art and literature and thus boost our literary culture in the state.

On this occasion, ‘Navnitam’, a book on compilation of his thoughts, published by the academy was also released. CM Smt Patel congratulated Gunvantbhai for cultivating the habit of healthy reading in Gujarati families world over and wished that may his objective writings continues to enrich our Gujarati literature.

The occasion was graced by renowned spiritual leader Shri Morari Bapu, Ministers Shri Nitinbhai Patel and Shri Nanubhai Vanani, President of Gujarat Sahitya Academy Shri Bhagyeshbhai Jha, Vice Chancellor of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University Shri Daksheshbhai Thakar, Swami Adhyatmanandji, reputed litterateurs and many other invited eminent personalities.
