Gujarat CM holds one-to-one talks with Guangdong Governor, Emphasizes on cultural exchange to foster relationship

Chief Minister of Gujarat Smt. Anandiben Patel today held high-level meeting with the Governor of Guangdong Mr. Zhu Xiaodan to identify opportunities and discuss areas of cooperation between the two sister states.

Acknowledging the warm welcome extended by the Chinese Government to the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi as well as the delegation of the Government of Gujarat, she said that it is a matter of great pride and satisfaction that the two of the fastest growing and large countries have had such a constructive interaction in the last few days.

Governor Mr. Zhu Xiaodan, who warmly welcomed the Hon’ble Chief Minister, had select words of appreciation for Smt. Patel and spoke of her long and illustrious career. He also mentioned the noteworthy enthusiasm for Gujarat among the business community in Guangdong as witnessed in the large turn-out in the business meet held earlier in the morning.

In his remarks during the discussions, held in the atmosphere of utmost cordiality, he listed several areas of interest where the two states could partner for mutual benefit, including port and transport sector, infrastructure and tourism.

Chief Minister Smt. Patel described the core strengths of various regions of Gujarat, such as long coastline which presents immense potential for port development, Vadnagar’s Buddhist heritage site development opportunity, and huge wildlife tourism potential the region of Junagadh presents. She specifically focussed on developing a state of the art institute for skill development in Gujarat with the help of Guangdong provincial government. She also said that Smart City development is another important area for cooperation, and suggested that Ahmedabad along with the collaboration of Guangzhou could be developed as a Smart city. She also mentioned the positive environment available in Gujarat for development of industrial parks on the lines of the excellent infrastructure that she had seen in the province.

Recalling the cultural program hosted by the Indian Embassy in Beijing, where Chinese youth performed traditional Indian dance forms, Smt. Patel suggested that a cultural exchange program can be devised through which children from both states could learn about the cultural art of each other.

The Gujarat Chief Minister extended a warm invitation to the Governor of Guangdong and his team to visit Gujarat at an early date so that the expressions of cooperation could be translated into specific projects in a time bound manner.
