Gujarat CM takes anticipatory decision to construct 3 lakes in Banaskantha

In a step towards ensuring adequate water supply across the state, Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel today took a very important decision to construct 3 lakes at a cost of Rs 40 crore in Banaskantha district, which will occupy about 24 hectares of land and will have total storage capacity of 97 crore litres of water.

CM Smt Patel has taken this crucial decision considering the situation when Narmada main canal is under maintenance and the water supply is halted. In such case 345 villages and 2 towns of Tharad, Diodar, Bhabhar, Vav and Sui taluka in Banasksantha district will face water supply problem. Three new water bodies planned at Bhapi, Samla-Vadana and Devpura in Banaskantha district will largely solve this issue and will ensure uninterrupted water supply in this area.

New water bodies will be constructed in a way that water will be carried from canal to pond and pond to water supply sump by gravity. Thus water supply will be possible without additional power cost.

CM Smt Patel has also taken a decision to construct similar big water bodies in Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Jamnagar districts. The size of new water bodies will be big enough to ensure 15-day water supply in Saurashtra region when Narmada canal is under maintenance.
